Blind photovoltaic modeling intercomparison: A multidimensional data analysis and lessons learned
In this blind photovoltaic modeling intercomparison, most software and models exhibited similar results indicating good reproducibility among participants, especially when compared with the 2010 PVPMC intercomparison. For example, the spread in estimated annual energy yield among PVsyst participants is now ~6% compared with ~33% in 2010.

A simple method to calculate the aerosol content in the atmosphere and the prevailing spectral irradiance of the sunlight is introduced. A weather station and a pyrheliometer are sufficient for the determination of the prevailing spectral irradiance using this method.

In this study, a new algorithmic tool is introduced that creates a reference data set through the combination of data sets of the unshaded PV systems in the surrounding area. It subsequently compares the created reference data set with the one of the PV systems of interest, detects any energy loss and clusters the distinctive loss due to shadow ...

COVID‐19 Pandemic Reveals Distinct Impact of Aerosols on Surface Solar Radiation in China
Abstract With the abrupt and significant drop of PM2.5 concentrations during the lockdown in 2020, hourly direct radiation (Rdir) at surface substantially increased in East China, such as Zhengzhou, Wuhan and Baoshan, with the maximum enhancement of 86% at Wuhan. Most of these stations had decreased diffuse radiation (Rdif) except Zhengzhou.

Proxy-based reconstruction of erythemal UV doses over Estonia for 1955–2004 [PDF]
A proxy-based reconstruction of the erythemally-weighted UV doses for 1955-2004 has been performed for the Tartu-Tõravere Meteorological Station (58°16' N, 26°28' E, 70 m a.s.l.) site.

Reconciling Observations of Solar Irradiance Variability With Cloud Size Distributions
Abstract Clouds cast shadows on the surface and locally enhance solar irradiance by absorbing and scattering sunlight, resulting in fast and large solar irradiance fluctuations on the surface. Typical spatiotemporal scales and driving mechanisms of this intra‐day irradiance variability are not well known, hence even 1 day ahead forecasts of variability

In this work, we present an irradiance simulation approach to calculate the irradiance of photovoltaic modules installed in geometrically complex scenarios. In the proposed approach, the ray tracing calculations are independent from the reflectivity of the surfaces and the illumination conditions, which enables high‐resolution spectral irradiance ...
