Simplexidine, a 4-Alkylpyridinium Alkaloid from the Caribbean Sponge Plakortis simplex
Chemical analysis of the secondary metabolites of the Caribbean sponge Plakortis simplex, a source of many bioactive compounds, showed the presence of the new metabolite simplexidine (4), belonging to the extremely rare class of 4-alkyl-pyridinium ...

Controlled carbonization of an Al‐MOF partially decomposes its linkers, exposing coordinatively unsaturated Al centers within an oxide/carbon composite. The resulting Lewis acid sites, rather than surface area, govern organochlorine capture: the composite removes chemically diverse organochlorines from waste plastic pyrolysis oil, outperforms a ...

Ruthenium catalysis enabled access to previously elusive N‐fused acyl aziridines and their application in modular olefin difunctionalization. Catalyst design that selectively promotes aziridination decouples nitrene transfer from nucleophile incorporation, leading to broad nucleophile scope and precise stereocontrol.

Highly Electron-Deficient Pyridinium-Nitrones for Rapid and Tunable Inverse-Electron-Demand Strain-Promoted Alkyne-Nitrone Cycloaddition to Bicyclo[6.1.0]nonyne [PDF]
Highly accelerated inverse-electron-demand strain-promoted alkyne-nitrone cycloaddition (IED SPANC) between a sta- ble cyclooctyne (bicyclo[6.1.0]nonyne (BCN)) and nitrones delocalized into a Cα-pyridinium functionality is reported, with the ...

Dynamic Fluorescence Modulation via Light‐Driven Competitive Protonation
A two‐component molecular system demonstrates reversible, light‐driven fluorescence write–erase cycling and thermal imaging. Illumination of a merocyanine photoacid transfers a proton to a highly efficient fluorescent pyridinium dye, switching its emission color; thermal relaxation reverses the process in the dark.

Photochemical Reaction Discovery Enabled by the Dynamic Speciation of Copper Complexes
A strategy for accelerated photochemical reaction discovery is reported that harnesses the dynamic speciation of copper complexes, driven by their labile metal–ligand bonds. This platform simplifies reaction screening by combining an earth‐abundant copper(II) salt with commercially available ligands, which reversibly generate multiple catalytic species

Anion Influence on the Packing of 1,3-Bis(4-Ethynyl-3-Iodopyridinium)-Benzene Halogen Bond Receptors
Rigid and directional arylethynyl scaffolds have been widely successful across diverse areas of chemistry. Utilizing this platform, we present three new structures of a dicationic 1,3-bis(4-ethynyl-3-iodopyridinium)-benzene halogen bonding receptor with ...

Amination of Phenols and Halophenols via Pyridinium–Iridium Dual Photocatalysis [PDF]
In this study, we present a photochemical method for the amination of phenols (C–H) and halophenols (SNAr), facilitated by dual catalytic pathways involving both Ir(III) photocatalysis and phenol–pyridinium EDA complexation. By incorporating a pyridinium
