Loop Current and Orbital Magnetism in Pyrite-Type $Ir_{3}Ch_{8}$ ($Ch=Se,Te$) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
We study the parent compound of the pyrite-type $Ir_{x}Ch_{2}$ iridium chalcogenide superconductors, $Ir_{0.75}Ch_{2}$ (or $Ir_{3}Ch_{8}$). While the lattice structure of the material is rather complicated, we show that the electron physics near the Fermi surface (FS) can be described by a three-band tight-binding model.

Multidimensional Characterization of Formation Damage Mechanisms in Ancient Carbonate Reservoirs: Synergistic Effects of Inorganic‐Organic Interactions

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Formation clogging in carbonate gas reservoirs is a significant challenge in natural gas extraction, particularly due to the complex mineral composition and physicochemical characteristics of carbonate rocks, which make clogging phenomena even more complex. This study aims to delve into the formation mechanisms of formation plugs in carbonate

Heavy Metal Bioaccumulation in Solanum torvum (Sw.) (Turkey Berry) From the Bono and Ahafo Regions: Nutritional Potential and Toxicological Risks

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Heavy metal contamination of agricultural soils and subsequent bioaccumulation in food crops poses significant public health concerns, particularly in mining regions. This study investigated heavy metal concentrations in turkey berry (Solanum torvum) fruits and associated soils from three locations in Ghana's mining belt, evaluated soil ...

Theoretical expectation of large Seebeck effect in PtAs$_2$ and PtP$_2$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Motivated by a recent observation of good thermoelectric properties in %a %pyrite material PtSb$_2$, we theoretically study related pyrites %materials in an attempt to %find a %better thermoelectric material. %Our aim is to seek for a material which overcomes the suppression of the Seebeck coefficient at high temperatures.% in PtSb$_2$.

From waste to reuse: Fenton degradation of anticancer drugs in hospital wastewater using iron mining residue

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The heterogeneous photo‐Fenton process demands stable and efficient materials as catalysts to decompose hydrogen peroxide and generate reactive oxygen species to promote the degradation of organic contaminants in wastewater. In this study, the catalytic activity of an iron mining residue (IMR) was investigated for the heterogeneous ...

Potential pitfalls when using popular chemical extractions to characterize Al‐ and Fe‐containing soil constituents

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Wet‐chemical extraction of soil to quantify pedogenic species or to remove specific compounds prior to other analyses is an established approach in analytical soil mineralogy and soil chemistry. Interpretation and informational value of data derived from long‐established and frequently used extractions, for instance involving dithionite ...

Clay Mineral–Hydrophobic Organic Compound Interactions in Miniaturized Adsorption Experiments: Exemplary Studies With Bentonites and Hexachlorobenzene

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
Clay mineral–hydrophobic organic compound interactions were studied with hexachlorobenzene and 21 bentonites. Adsorption strength varies depending on bentonite properties. For highly adsorptive bentonites, adsorption is comparable with adsorption to organic matter.
