Petrophysical target characterization with lithogeochemical clustering: the Metsämonttu Zn–Pb–Cu deposit, southern Finland

open access: yesNear Surface Geophysics, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 637-660, December 2022., 2022
ABSTRACT In mineral exploration, reliable and comprehensive petrophysical groundwork helps evaluate the success rate of applying geophysical methods to the target and thus improves the quality of decision‐making related to geophysical surveys. Petrophysical data for potential field exploration can be efficiently collected from drill cores together with

Elastic properties of 5d transition-metal carbides: An ab initio study [PDF]

open access: yesCondens. Matter Phys., 2015, vol. 3, No. 3, 33801, 2015
We have systematically studied the mechanical stability of group V transition metal carbides TMC$_2$ (TM = Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt, and Au) in the pyrite and fluorite phase, by calculating their elastic constants within the density functional theory scheme. It was found that all but ReC$_2$ and OsC$_2$ are stable in pyrite phase.

Nano‐Scale Characterization of Particulate Iron Pyrite Morphology in Shale

open access: yesParticle &Particle Systems Characterization, Volume 39, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
This paper presents that particle shape indices relying on the simplified main dimensions are less sensitive to simplification and can be calculated robustly even for 10 pixels per particle diameter. On the other hand, indices relying on the particle vertices, volume, and surface area are more sensitive to shape simplification, even for 40 pixels per ...

The Morphological Characteristics of Authigenic Pyrite Formed in Marine Sediments

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
Pyrites are widely distributed in marine sediments, the morphology of which is applied as a proxy to infer the redox conditions of bottom water, and identify diagenetic stages and hydrocarbon leakage activities.

Charge Carrier Transport in Iron Pyrite Thin Films: Disorder Induced Variable Range Hopping [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The origin of p-type conductivity and the mechanism responsible for low carrier mobility was investigated in pyrite (FeS2) thin films. Temperature dependent resistivity measurements were performed on polycrystalline and nanostructured thin films prepared by three different methods.

Apparent Ferromagnetism in Exfoliated Ultra-thin Pyrite Sheets [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physical Chemistry C, 2021, 2020
Experimental evidence for ferromagnetic ordering in isotropic atomically thin two-dimensional crystals has been missing until a bilayer Cr2Ge2Te6, and a three-atom thick monolayer CrI3 are shown to retain ferromagnetic ordering at finite temperatures.

Layered Compounds BaM2Ge4Ch6 (M = Rh, Ir and Ch = S, Se) with Pyrite-Type Building Blocks and Ge-Ch Heteromolecule-Like Anions [PDF]

open access: yesInorg. Chem. 53, 5684-5691 (2014), 2014
Structure and chemical features of layered compounds BaM2Ge4Ch6 (M = Rh, Ir; Ch = S, Se) synthesized under high-pressure and high-temperature method are systematically studied. These compounds crystallize in an orthorhombic phase with space group Pbca (No. 61).

Structural transition, metallization and superconductivity in quasi 2D layered PdS$_2$ under compression [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 101, 205149 (2020), 2020
Based on first-principles simulations and calculations, we explore the evolution of crystal structure, electronic structure and transport properties of quasi 2D layered PdS2 under uniaxial stress and hydrostatic pressure. The coordination of the Pd ions plays crucial roles in the structural transition, electronic structure and transport properties of ...
