FRUSTRATION IN THE PYROCHLORE ANTIFERROMAGNETS

Modern Physics Letters B, 1996
In an antiferromagnet with the pyrochlore structure, the magnetic ions are situated on a framework of corner-sharing tetrahedra. This lattice results in a high degree of geometrical frustration, and theoretical studies predict that the magnetic ground state is continuously disordered.

Disorder in Pyrochlore Oxides

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2000
Contour plots of disorder reaction energies across a wide variety of A 2 B 2 O 7 pyrochlore oxides have been produced, using atomistic simulation calculations based on energy‐minimization techniques.

Microstructure and Composition of a Ce-pyrochlore: A Chemical Analog for Pu-pyrochlore

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003
Ce‐pyrochlore (CaCeTi2O7), is a chemical analogue for CaPuTi2O7, which is a proposed ceramic waste form for deposition of excess weapon‐usable Pu in geological repositories. Ce‐pyrochlore was synthesized by firing and annealing a mixture of Ce(NO3)4, TiO2, and Ca(OH)2 with a stoichiometry of CaCeTi2O7 at 1,300°C for 50 hours.

Tolerance factor for pyrochlores and related structures

Acta Crystallographica Section B Structural Science Crystal Engineering and Materials, 2013
In this work a new empirical tolerance factor for compounds with pyrochlore structure is proposed. This suggested tolerance factor is based on experimental structural data and on the tolerance factors proposed. However, since it does not depend on the structural data, this new tolerance factor permits the prediction of some properties of these ...

Zirconate pyrochlores under high pressure

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2010
Ab initio total-energy calculations and X-ray diffraction measurements have been combined to study the phase stability of zirconate pyrochlores (A(2)Zr(2)O(7); A = La, Nd and Sm) under pressures up to 50 GPa. Phase transformations to the defect-cotunnite structure are theoretically predicted at pressures of 22, 20 and 18 GPa, in excellent agreement ...

A Fluoride with Pyrochlore Structure

Nature, 1939
THE formula of the rare mineral ralstonite is usually written (Na2,Mg)F2.3Al(F,OH)3.2H2O. This implies a replacement of Na2 by Mg. X-ray investigation of this mineral shows that it belongs to the space-group Oh7 — Fd3m and that the edge of the unit cube has a length of 9.87 A. By recalculation from the best available analysis (Penfield and Harper, 1886)
