Biogeochemical asymmetry and the diversification of tropical rain forests in Borneo: The endmember hypothesis

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 4-14, January 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Mixed dipterocarp lowland tropical rain forests on Oxisols and Ultisols and heath forests on Spodosols are considered distinct vegetation types in Borneo. Here we present the endmember hypothesis of ecosystem diversification, which describes a continuum of forest ...

Lahar events in the last 2000 years from Vesuvius eruptions – Part 1: Distribution and impact on densely inhabited territory estimated from field data analysis [PDF]

open access: yesSolid Earth
Lahars represent some of the most dangerous phenomena in volcanic areas for their destructive power, causing dramatic changes in the landscape with no premonitory signs and impacting the population and infrastructure.

Behaviour of chemical elements during weathering of pyroclastic rocks, Hong Kong

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2001
The behaviour of whole-rock major, trace and rare earth elements (REE) during weathering under subtropical conditions is examined along a profile developed over crystal--vitric tuffs with eutaxitic texture. The intensity of weathering within the profile varies erratically, indicating weathering processes operate over different scales.

Igneous processes within late Precambrian volcanic centres near Whitwick, northwestern Charnwood Forest [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Precambrian rocks in northwestern Chamwood Forest differ markedly from their lateral equivalents to the east and south. They are subdivided into the Whitwick Volcanic Complex, of massive to intensely brecciated high-silica andesites and porphyritic ...

Aligned hydrothermal fluid‐flow pathways in Middle Permian near‐shore marine sediments beneath a basaltic lava flow

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 1, Page 83-102, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Tubular and curviplanar structures, outlined by the occurrence of haematite/goethite, chlorite, quartz and albite, are developed in the Middle Permian Broughton Formation in the southern Sydney Basin, New South Wales, Australia. These structures are interpreted as fluid‐flow pathways resulting from the ejection of heated pore fluids as a thick

The strata and palaeo-geomorphology framework at the end of neoproterozoic and development mode of source rocks at the beginning of Cambrian in Tarim Basin, China

open access: yesJournal of Natural Gas Geoscience, 2017
Referred to the new recognition from petroleum exploration of the Sinian to Cambrian in South China, it could be considered that the distribution of the early Cambrian source rocks was controlled by the palaeo-geomorphology at the end of Neoproterozoic ...
