Improved detectivity of pyroelectric detectors [PDF]

open access: yes
High detectivity single-element SBN pyroelectric detectors were fabricated. The theory and technology developments related to improved detector performance were identified and formulated. Improved methods of material characterization, thinning, mounting,

Enhancement of PVDF Electroactive Phase Content—Effect of Plasticizer as an Additive

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Preparation of spin‐coated PVDF composite films and the resulting crystalline phase transition (α → γ/β) triggered by cyclic‐ester EC interactions. ABSTRACT Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is a functional polymer with highly desirable electrical and piezoelectric properties.

Investigation of the laser fluence and wavelength dependence in surface‐assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry using gold nanoparticles

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
Rationale Surface‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (SALDI) mass spectrometry (MS) builds on the use of nanostructured surfaces (e.g., coatings of colloidal nanoparticles) to promote analyte desorption and ionization. The SALDI process is believed to occur mainly through thermal processes, resulting from heating of the nanosubstrate upon absorption ...

Domain-Wall Enhanced Pyroelectricity

open access: yesPhysical Review X
Ferroelectric domain walls are not just static geometric boundaries between polarization domains; they are, in fact, dynamic and functional interfaces with the potential for diverse technological applications.

Camera traps and deep learning enable efficient large‐scale density estimation of wildlife in temperate forest ecosystems

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
We tested the effect of using a readily available deep learning algorithm for animal species classification on the population density estimates of eight wild mammal species in 10 protected areas (Da). In general, there were no significant differences to the manual estimates (Dm) for all animal species and seasons.

PVF pyroelectric radiometer [PDF]

open access: yes
Polyvinylfluoride (PVF) plastic film was found to be a good pyroelectric material. Radiometers using PVF were developed that exhibit high sensitivity and frequency response.

Record‐Low Compressibility in [N(C2H5)3CH3]FeCl4 Expands Phase Engineering Horizons in Hybrid Molecular Ferroelectrics

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
High‐pressure studies of the lead‐free hybrid organic–inorganic ferroelectric [N(C2H5)3CH3]FeCl4 demonstrate record low compressibility, establishing it as the least compressible molecular ferroelectric known. In situ diamond anvil cell experiments identify halide selection and inorganic sublattice tuning as key compressibility controls, advancing ...

A flexible arched artificial photoreceptor constructed by photodeformable liquid crystal polymers and its application in vision restoration

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
A flexible arched artificial photoreceptor with high stability and biocompatibility was fabricated by integrating liquid crystal polymers with polyvinylidene fluoride‐trifluoroethylene. This device exhibits robust photoelectric responses under low‐intensity illumination and demonstrates efficacy in restoring visual responses in blind rats following ...

Physical Properties of the K0.5Na0.5NbO3 Compound Doped With Li, La, and Ti in Concentration Lower Than 1.3 mol%

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ceramic Engineering & Science
Physical properties of the K0.5Na0.5NbO3 (KNN) system doped with less than 1.3 mol% of Li+, La3+, and Ti4+ ions were studied. These samples were prepared by a mixture of oxides and carbonates using high‐energy milling and solid‐state reactions.

Recent advances of non‐invasive sensors for smart wearable respiratory monitoring

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Respiration contains rich physiological and pathological information, making it one of the most fundamental and continuous vital signs. Respiration monitoring is a non‐invasive and simple, but incredibly powerful, tool for assessing health, managing disease, and tracking fitness.
