Experimental carcinogenesis of pyrolysis fuel oil
American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1977In the manufacture of ethylene by high-temperature cracking of hydrocarbons, certain high-boiling materials known as pyrolysis fuel oil result as residues. Two samples of these residues produced skin carcinomas upon lifespan application to the skin of mice.

Catalytic upgrading of pyrolysis oil
Energy & Fuels, 1993The upgrading of a fast pyrolysis bio-oil and its two fractions was studied at atmospheric pressure using HZSM-5 as catalyst. The two fractions were pyrolytic lignin (which remained after removing water-soluble components from the whole bio-oil) and resid oil (which remained after separating phenolic fraction from the whole bio-oil).

Pyrolysis oil from fast pyrolysis of maize stalk
Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis, 2008Abstract Maize stalk was fast pyrolysed at temperatures between 420 °C and 580 °C in a fluidized-bed, and the main product of pyrolysis oil was obtained. The experimental results showed that the highest pyrolysis oil yield of 66 wt.% was obtained at 500 °C for maize stalk.
