Organophosphorus derivatives of pyrrolidine

Some 2-oxo-2-pyrrolidino-1,3,2-dioxaphospholanes and the corresponding phosphorinanes, and also some 2-thio-2-pyrrolidino-1,3,2-dioxaphospholanes (phosphorinanes), were obtained for the first time. These compounds have an antispasmodic effect and the ability to depress the central nervous system.

Dehydrogenation of 6,7-dimethoxy-1-methyl-4-(N-methyl-pyrrolidin-2-yl)-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline (9) by Pd/C in tetraline leads to dehydrogenated products, rearrangement, and elimination of the pyrrolidine group mainly as N-methylpyrrolidine (Scheme 3).

The formation, decay, and absorption spectra of transients formed from pyrrolidine in aqueous solutions were studied. The solvated electron ( ${\rm e}_{{\rm aq}}^{-}$) reacts with the protonated and the nonprotonated pyrrolidine forming the ${\rm C}_{4}{\rm H}_{8}{\rm N}$· radical. The formation of nitrones by direct condensation between equimolecular amounts of N-substituted hydroxylamine hydrochlorides and aromatic or aliphatic aldehydes is efficiently promoted by pyrrolidine in a matter of minutes under very mild conditions in almost quantitative yields after a simple filtration through a short pad of silica gel.
