3D investigation and modeling of the geometric effects on porosity in packed beds

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 72, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract In porous beds, physical boundaries restrict particle arrangement, leading to inhomogeneous porosity. This paper reports on the porosity profiles that are the result of geometric effects on monodisperse packed beds in cylindrical and cubic arrangements. Special focus is given to the influence of edges and corners in cubic geometries.

An application of Baker's method to the Je\'smanowicz' conjecture on primitive Pythagorean triples

open access: yes, 2018
Let $m$, $n$ be positive integers such that $m>n$, $\gcd(m,n)=1$ and $m \not\equiv n \bmod 2$. In 1956, L. Je\'smanowicz \cite{Jes} conjectured that the equation $(m^2 - n^2)^x + (2mn)^y = (m^2+n^2)^z$ has only the positive integer solution $(x,y,z) = (2,

Sublinear bilipschitz equivalence and the quasiisometric classification of solvable Lie groups

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract We prove a product theorem for sublinear bilipschitz equivalences which generalizes the classical work of Kapovich, Kleiner, and Leeb on quasiisometries between product spaces. We employ our product theorem to distinguish up to quasiisometry certain families of solvable groups which share the same dimension, cone‐dimension and Dehn function ...

How to generate all integral triangles containing a given angle

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2000
We present an elementary prescription based on the rational secant method for generating all the integral triangles containing a given angle of rational cosine.

Graph‐Theory Approach to Element Miscibility and Alloy Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 16, 18 March 2026.
Graph and network theory enables pathway toward complex multiscale interactions between different elements for alloy design or interface engineering. Utilizing element's inherent properties and preferential interactivity, favorable mixed material formation, solubility and miscibility can be predicted.

Levels of Distribution and the Affine Sieve

open access: yes, 2014
This article is an expanded version of the author's lecture in the Basic Notions Seminar at Harvard, September 2013. Our goal is a brief and introductory exposition of aspects of two topics in sieve theory which have received attention recently: (1) the ...

Osculating geometry and higher‐order distance Loci

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract We discuss the problem of optimizing the distance function from a given point, subject to polynomial constraints. A key algebraic invariant that governs its complexity is the Euclidean distance degree, which pertains to first‐order tangency. We focus on the data locus of points possessing at least one critical point of the distance function ...

An Extended Kannan Contraction Mapping and Applications [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematical, Engineering and Management Sciences
We extend the Kannan contraction principle and obtain a result that holds for both contractive and non-expansive mappings. Such mappings admit multiple fixed-points and the fixed-point sets and domains of these mappings display interesting algebraic ...

A Survey on the Ternary Purely Exponential Diophantine Equation $a^x + b^y = c^z$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Let $a$, $b$, $c$ be fixed coprime positive integers with $\min\{a,b,c\}>1$. In this survey, we consider some unsolved problems and related works concerning the positive integer solutions $(x,y,z)$ of the ternary purely exponential diophantine equation ...

From Molecule to Meaning: Click and Bioorthogonal Chemical Reporters for Plant Systems, Biological Imaging, and Artistic Expression

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 1, January 2026.
At the intersection of chemical biology, plant imaging, and contemporary art, this review introduces the concept of chembioart. By tracing how chemical reporters illuminate plant biomolecules in vivo, their role not only in advancing scientific understanding but also in inspiring transdisciplinary collaborations and visual expression is highlighted ...
