A glucose concentration sensor for microliter-volume water–glucose solutions is presented. The proposed sensor is composed of an open-loop microstrip resonator with a dielectric liquid holder (5–25- $\mu \text{L}$ volume) glued onto the gap between the ...

In this paper I criticize the Chalmers–Jackson position on the commitments of Materialism from a new direction. Unlike my earlier critique, and that of Block and Stalnaker, I here accept for the sake of argument the overall neo-Fregean semantic project that Chalmers and Jackson employ to draw out the alleged a priori commitments of Materialism ...

The Q-factor of a Continuous-wave Laser
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2012, 2012We define the finite Q-factor of a continuous-wave lasing resonator as the energy of coherent photons stored in the resonator at a given time over the energy of these coherent photons lost per oscillation cycle.

The fundamental limits of antennas tie its electrical size to its quality factor (Q-factor) and radiation efficiency. The Q-factor is linearly proportional to the inverse of the instantaneous bandwidth for a narrow-band antenna.

On the perturbation of the Q‐factor of the QR factorization
Numerical Linear Algebra with Applications, 2011SUMMARYThis paper gives normwise and componentwise perturbation analyses for the Q‐factor of the QR factorization of the matrix A with full column rank when A suffers from an additive perturbation. Rigorous perturbation bounds are derived on the projections of the perturbation of the Q‐factor in the range of A and its orthogonal complement.

Q-factor of tuned microstrip resonator
Radioelectronics and Communications Systems, 2016The paper presents research of quality factor in the micro-mechanically tunable microstrip resonator and its change in response to tuning. In the presented design unloaded quality factor increases about 10% during tuning due to reduction of dielectric loss in substrate’s medium and ohmic loss in metal electrodes.

A Note on the Perturbation Bound of Q-factors [PDF]
By adding the orthogonal projectors into the bound of unitary polar factors, a uniform perturbation bound of \(Q\)-factors is obtained, and on this basis the previous bounds are improved.

TheQ-factor of flexure membranes
Measurement Science and Technology, 2001We report on the intrinsic or material quality factor (Q-factor) of a number of different materials, possible suited for the construction of low loss flexures. Clamped foil flexure membranes made from titanium, a glassy alloy, Cusil and Havar (high strength non-magnetic alloy), as well as monolithic flexure membranes made from titanium, niobium and ...

High-Q-factor nanobeam photonic crystal cavities in bulk silicon carbide
Applied Physics Letters, 2018Silicon carbide (SiC) is a promising optical material for stable and broadband nanophotonics. To date, thin crystalline SiC layers for nanophotonic platforms have been created by ion implantation or growth on other materials, which may cause optical ...
