The Qaidam Basin as a Planetary Analog
2023Abstract Analog study is a convenient and effective way to understand the geomorphic features and geological processes of other planets. The Qaidam Basin, an intramontane basin in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau, northwest China, is a new and unique Mars analog study site.

Surface pollen in the east of Qaidam Basin
Journal of Geographical Sciences, 2006Pollen analysis of 23 surface samples in the east of Qaidam Basin reveals the characteristics of pollen assemblages and their relationships with vegetation and climate. In pollen assemblages, Chenopodiaceae and Artemisia are preponderant types in all the samples, and Ephedra, Gramineae and Compositae are common types.

Biogenic gas systems in eastern Qaidam Basin
Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2008Abstract Several giant biogenic gas fields (with proven gas reserves greater than 25 billion cubic meters) have been discovered in recent years in the Sanhu area of eastern Qaidam Basin. This area has an average surface altitude of around 2800 m, and forms the northern segment of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Late Accumulation of Kunbei Area in Qaidam Basin
Advanced Materials Research, 2013This paper is aimed to find out the main reason of late accumulation of Kunbei area in Qaidam Basin using geochemistry and seismic data and to provide scientific evidence to the potential petroleum exploration in this area. Reservoirs in Kunbei fault terrace zone originate from petreoleum generated by source rocks of E32 in Zhahaquan depression after ...

The Evolution of the Quaternary Salt Lakes in the Qaidam Basin
Acta Geologica Sinica - English Edition, 1994Abstract The paper discusses the distribution of Quaternary sediments, occurrence of saline minerals and phases of neotectonic movements and their manifestations in the Qaidam basin. The formation of four successive lacustrine terraces in Tertiary anticlinal zones in the western part of the basin was related to the neotectonic movements that took place

Abstract The Qaidam Basin has very little precipitation but large surface evaporation. Besides, the groundwater resources are unevenly distributed, which gradually decrease from east to west. Therefore, reasonable exploration and management of the groundwater resources are very important in this area.

Yardang geometries in the Qaidam Basin and their controlling factors
Geomorphology, 2017Abstract The hyperarid Qaidam Basin features extensive fields of yardangs (covering an area of ~ 40,000km2) sculpted in tectonically folded sedimentary rocks. We extracted the geometries of 16,749 yardangs, such as length-to-width ratio (L/W), spatial density, and spacing, from multi-source remote sensing data provided by Google Earth™. We classified

Migration Law of Mesozoic Qaidam Basin Depocenters
Advanced Materials Research, 2012According to stratigraphy and distribution features of the Qaidam Basin, and further the formation and migration of it’s depocenters, it is considered that the Middle-Upper Triassic were mainly sags scattered among the Qilian Mountains, the Alabasitao Mountains and the Kunlun Mountains; the Early Jurassic depocenters were located mainly in Lenghu ...
