1-Butyl-3-Methylimidazolium Tetrafluoroborate Film as a Highly Selective Sensing Material for Non-Invasive Detection of Acetone Using a Quartz Crystal Microbalance

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Breath acetone serves as a biomarker for diabetes. This article reports 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([bmim][BF4]), a type of room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL), as a selective sensing material for acetone.

Real-time QCM-D monitoring of cellular responses to different cytomorphic agents.

open access: yes, 2018
Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) is used for real-time in situ detection of cytoskeletal changes in live primary endothelial cells in response to different cytomorphic agents; namely, the surfactant Triton-X 100 (TX-100 ...

Polymersome‐Enabled Multimodal Delivery of Tobramycin and Doripenem for Targeted Eradication of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilms in Chronic Rhinosinusitis

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of diffusion‐based versus pH‐triggered drug release within a bacterial biofilm. In diffusion‐based systems, drug cargo is gradually released independent of local pH, resulting in rapid burst release and reduced sustained concentrations.

Quartz crystal microbalance experiments reveal structural changes in the Staphylococcus aureus biofilm in the presence of savirin

open access: yesResults in Surfaces and Interfaces
Quartz-crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) experiments show that green-fluorescent protein labelled Staphylococcus aureus adsorption to a gold QCM electrode is similar for a certain incubation period (here, 6 h) in the presence and absence of ...

Self‐Powered Broadband High‐Responsivity Photodetectors: p‐(CuS)x(ZnSe)1−x/p‐Si Isotype Heterojunction

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This study reports a self‐powered broadband photodetector based on compositionally tuned p‐(CuS)x(ZnSe)1−x/p‐Si isotype heterojunctions. Increasing the CuS ratio improved the film crystallinity and produced a denser, more homogeneous nanopillar morphology, enhancing light absorption.
