Using time‐series remote sensing to identify and track individual bird nests at large scales

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Time‐series airborne imagery can potentially track individuals over time to collect information beyond one‐off counts. Using weekly UAS‐based imagery of wading bird colonies, we develop an automated approach to identifying nests. Our algorithmic approach detected 68–74% of known nests and exhibited similar performance to human review of imagery ...

Integrating Research Data Management into Geographical Information Systems

open access: yes, 2015
Ocean modelling requires the production of high-fidelity computational meshes upon which to solve the equations of motion. The production of such meshes by hand is often infeasible, considering the complexity of the bathymetry and coastlines.

Modelling forest dynamics using integral projection models and repeat lidar

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Forests are facing increasing pressure from climate change and disturbance, yet linking individual tree trajectories to whole‐forest outcomes remains a major challenge. Our study integrates repeat airborne lidar with an Integral Projection Model to analyse demographic processes at the landscape scale.

Large‐scale characterization of horizontal forest structure from remote sensing optical images

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Sub‐meter resolution remote sensing data and tree crown segmentation techniques hold promise in offering detailed information that can support the characterization of forest structure from a horizontal perspective, offering new insights in the tree crown structure at scale.

Spatial configuration Based on Relationship between Buildings and Road Network in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia

open access: yesARTEKS : Jurnal Teknik Arsitektur
Oebobo District has the highest density level among all sub-districts in Kupang City. The impact of population growth and circulation is that the mobility of people and goods often occurs quickly, thus hampering efficient observation.

Identification of initial vegetation and habitat changes in small temperate fens using remote sensing

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Temperate fens with only incipient, subtle signs of deterioration can be reliably identified using Sentinel‐2 and aerial imagery, which sensitively detect early productivity‐related structural changes. Abstract Small temperate fens rank among the most endangered habitats in temperate Europe.

Retrospective image analysis for long‐term demography using Google Earth imagery

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that high‐resolution Google Earth imagery, combined with minimal field validation, enables retrospective tracking of individual invasive plants. The image shows one of the monitored individuals of Opuntia sp. in Greece. Our approach reveals long‐term demographic patterns, recruitment dynamics, and spatial expansion without continuous ...
