mRNA Lipid Nanoparticles for Cell Engineering in Vivo and in Vitro: Current Applications and Future Directions

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
Schematic diagram of mRNA‐lipid nanoparticles (mRNA‐LNP) and its functional mechanisms, applications, and challenges in cell engineering. This figure details the structural composition of mRNA‐LNPs and the delivery strategy, highlighting three core challenges.

A framework linking silicon fertilisation, plant silicification and soil carbon cycling

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 3, Page 861-870, May 2026.
Soil organic carbon (SOC) is vital for soil health, food security, and climate change mitigation. We reviewed how silicon (Si) fertilisers, commonly used to improve plant health, may also influence SOC dynamics. We developed a framework linking Si and SOC and discussed the possibility of Si‐mediated plant changes contributing to SOC sequestration.

Mechanisms of Vegetation Community Self‐Organization Driven by Water Availability in Arid Northwest China

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Precipitation is scarce in arid regions, making water redistribution a key driver of vegetation patterns, especially for non‐zonal vegetation in oases. Nevertheless, the coupling and mutual feedback mechanism between water and vegetation distribution is complex, and it has not been fully addressed. Taking an arid region of Northwest China as a

Healthy Eating Index, Epigenetic Age Acceleration and Mortality Risk in US Adults

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 5, May 2026.
Higher diet quality (HEI‐2015) was associated with lower epigenetic age acceleration and reduced all‐cause mortality in NHANES and HRS, with GrimAgeEAA emerging as the strongest mortality predictor and partially accounting for the diet–mortality association in HRS, within a broader framework linking socioeconomic status, behavioral factors, and ...

SIRT1 Downregulation by Advanced Glycation End Products Activates RANKL‐Dependent Osteoclast Signaling and Drives Chondrocyte Senescence During Osteoarthritis Development

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 5, May 2026.
Mechanistic study of AGEs‐induced OA progression via SIRT1/RANKL/RANK signaling‐mediated osteoclast–chondrocyte communication and cellular senescence. ABSTRACT Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) accumulate with aging and metabolic stress and are increasingly implicated in osteoarthritis (OA) pathology.

Exosome‐Delivered eNAMPT From Exercise Activates SIRT1 to Counteract Age‐Related Hepatic Steatosis and Fibrosis

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 5, May 2026.
Exercise alleviates age‐related progression of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) via exosome‐mediated activation of the SIRT1‐autophagy axis. ABSTRACT Aging is a major independent risk factor for the development and progression of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD); however, effective ...

Reduced Coupling of Global Brain Activity and Cerebrospinal Fluid Flow in Individuals With Betel Quid Dependence

open access: yesAddiction Biology, Volume 31, Issue 5, May 2026.
Betel quid dependence (BQD) is a prevalent psychoactive substance‐use disorder with unclear neuropathology. Using resting‐state fMRI, we evaluated cerebral glymphatic function in BQD individuals by measuring the coupling between global BOLD and cerebrospinal fluid signals.
