Distribution of Stipa purpurea steppe in the Northeastern Qinghai-Xizang Plateau (China)

Russian Journal of Ecology, 2011
The aims of this study were to examine the spatial distribution pattern of Stipa purpurea steppe and to elucidate their possible correlation with environmental factors, by means of multivariate quantitative analysis. Two data sets were subjected to the Two-way Indicator Species Analysis (TWINSPAN), the community similarity analysis and the Detrended ...

Effects of the Tibetan Plateau (Qinghai-Xizang) on the Monsoon

1994
The Tibetan Plateau is one of the most complex geographical features in the world, with an average elevation of about 4 km. Thus, it not only exerts a significant mechanical barrier effect, but also serves as an elevated heat source that generates a temperature contrast with the surrounding free atmosphere.

Model Calculation of Radiative Properties in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau Atmosphere

1987
Examining the surface radiation data observed during May–August 1979, a parameterized radiation transfer model developed at the University of Utah, U.S.A. has been used to compute the atmospheric radiative properties for four stations over the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and one station in the plain area representing different climate. The results show that

The environmental effects of the uplift of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau

Quaternary Science Reviews, 1991
Abstract The intense upheaval of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau took place 2 Ma BP. The terraces of the Yellow River in the Lanzhou Region and its upper sections provide a record of the uplift of the Plateau. The interaction of glaciation cycles resulting from climatic changes and pulsating tectonic upheavals are both involved in the record of ...

The Developments of Thermal Mixed Layer over the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau in Relation to the Formation of the Qinghai-Xizang High

1986
The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau is a huge land mass with an area of about 250 million km2 and an average altitude of 4km forming a special boundary layer in the middle free atmosphere of the troposphere. As the Plateau is a heat source in summer, the heat energy may be supplied through the boundary layer and transported to the free atmosphere leading to a ...

Numerical Simulation of the Compression Uplift of the Qinghai‐Xizang Plateau

Chinese Journal of Geophysics, 2000
AbstractA numerical simulation of the geodynamical process of the compression uplift of the Qinghai‐Xizang plateau is addressed in this paper. The continental lithosphere of the East Asia is regarded as a continuum in a power law rheology. It lies on a relatively soft upper mantle and is limited in a trapezoid geological frame.

Geochemical evolution and environmental changes of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau since Late Cenozoic

Chinese Journal of Geochemistry, 1998
Long- and short-term climatic curves were preliminarily established based on the comprehensive analysis of geochemical information since the Late Cenozoic in the Qinghai-Xizang (Qinghai-Tibet) Plateau. The curves show that the climate in the plateau was alternatively dry-warm and cold-wet during the period of 30-3.4 Ma when the plateau was not uplifted

An Investigation of the Summer Lows over the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau

1986
Low pressure areas over the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau on the 500 hPa level in the summer half year are found to be one of the major systems producing rainfall there[1]. In our investigation, 11 similar cases of occurrence of these lows are sorted out from the observations made during the first QXPMEX.

Qinghai-Xizang (Tibetan) Plateau climate simulation using the regional climate model RegCM3

Climate Research, 2013
Regional climate models are widely used because of their high resolution. They are especially useful for regions with complex topography and with sparse observations such as the Qinghai-Xizang (Tibetan) Plateau (QTP). We examined the effectiveness of a regional model for simulating climate along the route of the Qinghai-Xizang (Tibetan) Railway (QTR ...
