The high resolution sedimentary filling in Qiongdongnan Basin, Northern South China Sea

Marine Geology, 2015
Abstract The high density (2 km × 6 km), high resolution (19 sequence boundaries) seismic reflection profiles and 42 industrial wells (including VSP data, gamma ray, sonic and density logs) are now available in Qiongdongnan Basin to the northwest of South China Sea.

Tectonic Subsidence of Qiongdongnan Basin and Its Main Control Factors

Chinese Journal of Geophysics, 2008
AbstractBased on the data from 28 boreholes and the latest data of 3 seismic lines, the estimation of tectonic subsidence shows that the Qiongdongnan Basin (QDNB) experienced three episodes of rapid subsiding and one episode of slow subsiding in Cenozoic time.

The evolution of the slope breaks in Qiongdongnan Basin and their controlling factors

Marine Geophysical Research, 2014
Qiongdongnan Basin (QB) experienced three main tectonic stages in the Cenozoic: rifting, thermal subsidence, and accelerated subsidence. Corresponding to these stages, the slope breaks also underwent three different evolutionary stages, which differed in space and time between the east and west of QB.

TRIGGERING MECHANISMS AND EVOLUTION OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF MASS TRANSPORT DEPOSITS: A CASE STUDY OF THE QUATENARY QIONGDONGNAN BASIN, SOUTH CHINA SEA

Interpretation
Mass transport deposits (MTDs) have attracted widespread attention from scholars because of their powerful sediment transport ability and capping effect on shallow natural gas reservoirs.

Geochemistry, origin and accumulation of natural gas hydrates in the Qiongdongnan Basin, South China Sea: Implications from site GMGS5-W08

, 2021
The recent discovery of natural gas hydrates in the Qiongdongnan Basin (QDNB) during the fifth “China National Gas Hydrate Drilling Expedition” (GMGS5) confirms the great potential of gas hydrate resources within this basin.

Gas detection by seismic attributes in the Qiongdongnan Basin, northern South China Sea

Arabian Journal of Geosciences, 2018
Reflection characteristics of gas chimneys in seismic data in the Qiongdongnan Basin, northern South China Sea, indicate a large amount of gas, which migrates along the faults and fractures from deep to shallow layer, where strong attenuation of seismic waves under the seafloor occurs, leading to the decrease of Q factor. As it reaches to the seafloor,

Highly saturated free gas accumulations below the gas hydrate stability zone in the Qiongdongnan Basin, South China Sea

Geophysics
Free gas is commonly observed in shallow, unconsolidated marine sediments below the base of gas hydrate stability zone (BGHSZ), exhibiting high amplitude bright spots, enhanced reflections (ERs), and/or velocity pull-down features in seismic data ...
