Deep-water sediment cycles in the Qiongdongnan Basin [PDF]
Three sediment cycles were identified by 3-D seismic data within early Pleistocene to present strata on the northwestern slope (15°3000-16°3000E) of the Qiongdongnan Basin. The sediment cycles are characterized by basal mass transport deposits (MTDs) overlain by channel-levee deposits (CLDs).

Abstract Most marine gas hydrate systems follow a vertical pattern with hydrate overlying free gas. Here we document the discovery of a gas to hydrate system in a horizontal sand layer in the Qiongdongnan Basin of the South China Sea. Eight wells were drilled by the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey in 2021–2022 to investigate the occurrence and ...

Abstract Methane seepage, generated from natural processes or gas hydrate dissociation, drives the development of cold seep ecosystems and leads to atmosphere methane emission, thereby influencing climate change. Uncovering the intrinsic interactions among methane seepage intensities, biogeochemical processes in the sediment, and benthic community ...
