Microfacies models and sequence stratigraphic architecture of the Oligocene–Miocene Qom Formation, south of Qom City, Iran

open access: yesGeoscience Frontiers, 2015
AbstractThe Oligocene–Miocene Qom Formation has different depositional models in the Central Iran, Sanandaj–Sirjan and Urumieh-Dokhtar magmatic arc provinces in Iran. The Kahak section of the Qom Formation in the Urumieh-Dokhtar magmatic arc has been studied, in order to determinate its microfacies, depositional model and sequence stratigraphy.

The role of fossils in the microfacies studies and recognizing the sequence boundaries of the Qom Formation: A case study in Ghasr-e-Bahram Section, northwest part of Siahkuh, south Garmsar [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stratigraphy and Sedimentology Researches, 2023
Sequence stratigraphy is a branch of stratigraphy that can enable us to correlate deposits with considerable accuracy. This research aims to investigate the role of fossils in the recognition of system tracts and sequence boundaries along succession ...

Reconstruction of the depositional sedimentary environment of Oligocene deposits (Qom Formation) in the Qom Basin (northern Tethyan seaway), Iran [PDF]

open access: yesGeologos, 2020
Abstract During the Rupelian–Chattian, the Qom Basin (northern seaway basin) was located between the Paratethys in the north and the southern Tethyan seaway in the south. The Oligocene deposits (Qom Formation) in the Qom Basin have been interpreted for a reconstruction of environmental conditions during deposition, as well as of the ...

Biostratigraphy and Microfacies of Qom Formation in Urumieh – Dokhtar Zone, Iran [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2018
In order to determine the accurate paleoenvironmental conditions of Qom Formation, one stratigraphic section was studied in the Urumieh-Dokhtar Zone (West of Ashtian). 60 thin sections of the Qom Formation, 71 m thick, were prepared and the distribution of benthic foraminifera was analyzed.

Preliminary analysis of sedimentary characteristics and facies model of M-II layer in Kazakhstan Oilfield A [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2022
The lithologic melange accumulation of areskum formation in akshabluk area is one of the key strata in exploration. Its basement inheritance controls the whole process of Jurassic sedimentation, and the filling and leveling gradually reduces the terrain ...

Global regression evidence in the Middle Miocene strata in the Zanjan area [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stratigraphy and Sedimentology Researches, 2022
The study of the effect of global regression on the Middle Miocene (upper parts of the Qom Formation and Lower parts of the Upper Red Formation) strata has been carried out on two stratigraphic sections in the Zanjan area, northwest Iran.

Genesis of Tozlou Pb-Zn Occurrence (South of Zanjan): Evidence from Geology, Mineralization, and Geochemistry

open access: yesJournal of Economic Geology, 2023
Tozlou Pb-Zn mineralization, ~250-300m long, and ~50m thick, is hosted by limestone units of the Qom Formation. The main mineralization zone occurred as vein-veinlets and vug infill textures, where mineralization is observed as Pb-Zn-bearing barite veins

Application of elemental data in reconstruction of paleoredox conditions of the Qom Formation at Khani Abad section, southeast of Kashan [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stratigraphy and Sedimentology Researches, 2018
Introduction The abundances of minor-elements in carbonate rocks depend on the noncarbonate materials, including detrital minerals, accessory authigenic precipitates, noncarbonate skeletal material, organic matter, phases formed during diagenesis and the
