Comparison Between PS-QPSK and PDM-QPSK With Equal Rate and Bandwidth
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2012Polarization-switched quadrature phase-shift keying (PS-QPSK) is a recently introduced 4-D signal constellation that has a power efficiency (and sensitivity) advantage over polarization-division multiplexed QPSK (PDM-QPSK). Using a polarization-rotated form of PS-QPSK, we show that it is equivalent to a short block code, and assert that basic ...

QPSK Transmitter Based on Optical Amplitude Modulation of Electrically Generated QPSK Signal
An optical QPSK transmitter based on optical amplitude modulation of an electrical QPSK signal with subsequent optical filtering is demonstrated with 10.7 Gbaud (21.4 Gbit/s) RZ-DQPSK data.

We report on an experimental long-haul transmission of a 28 Gbaud PS-QPSK signal in WDM scenarios. This report presents, to the authors’ knowledge, a novel implementation of an optical coherent receiver for the polarization-switched quadrature phase ...

QPSK, Staggered QPSK, and MSK--A Comparative Evaluation
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1983Bandwidth- and power-efficient quadrature carrier modulation techniques are identified, evaluated, and compared. The modulation techniques include quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), staggered QPSK (SQPSK), and minimum (frequency) shift keying (MSK). High quality QPSK, SQPSK, and MSK transmitters and receivers were used in the evaluation, along with ...

The Effects of Filtering and Limiting on the Performance of QPSK, Offset QPSK, and MSK Systems
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1980The effects on spectral densities, symbol waveshapes and P e versus S/N performances, resulting from the addition of filtering followed by hard limiting on raised cosine filtered QPSK, offset QPSK, and MSK point-to-point radio systems are studied. A mathematical model and physical insight are presented into the crosstalk phenomenon between quadrature ...

RF pulse shaping for QPSK, PM-QPSK and QAM formats
Frontiers in Optics 2013, 2013We propose and evaluate the performance of a novel RF pulse against rectangular pulse for three modulation formats: QPSK, PM-QPSK, and Star 16 QAM. The proposed pulse shows BER improvement by over an order of magnitude even for large phase and pre-amplifier noise.
