Carbamate‐Directed peri‐CH Alkynylation: Application to the Synthesis of Zethrenes and Pyranthrenes
The Rh(III)‐catalyzed regioselective alkynylation of 1‐pyrenyl and 1‐naphthyl carbamates with bromoacetylenes enables the selective installation of an alkyne at the peri position of readily accessible amino‐substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Quantifying Carboxylate Burial in Synthetic Hydrophobic Pockets in Water
How “buried” is a buried ion? Double mutant cycles quantify the cost of placing a carboxylate within a deep aromatic calix[4]pyrrole pocket in water. The penalty is only +1.3 to +3.0 kcal·mol−1 because water penetrates through cracks and the portal, creating a wet, high‐dielectric microenvironment.

The formation of triplet Ni(II) complexes by activation of bromoalkenes with alkyl‐ or boryl Ni(I) is key to control the outcome of the reductive cross‐coupling of bromoalkanes precluding the formation of alkylboronates. Silyl Rearrangements in Gold‐Catalyzed Transformations
