50-Gb/s silicon quadrature phase-shift keying modulator
We report the first successful demonstration of quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) modulation using two nested silicon Mach-Zehnder modulators. 50-Gb/s QPSK signal is generated with only 2.7-dB optical signal-to-noise ratio penalties from the theoretical limit at a bit-error ratio of 10(-3).

Quadrature phase shift keying coherent state discrimination via a hybrid receiver [PDF]
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a near-optimal discrimination scheme for the quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) protocol. We show in theory that the performance of our hybrid scheme is superior to the standard scheme—heterodyne detection—for ...

Short-range ultrasonic communications in air using quadrature modulation [PDF]
A study has been undertaken of ultrasonic communications methods in air, using a quadrature modulation method. Simulations were first performed to establish the likely performance of quadrature phase shift keying over the limited bandwidth available in ...

Quadrature demultiplexing using a degenerate vector parametric amplifier [PDF]
We report on quadrature demultiplexing of a quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) signal into two cross-polarized binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) signals with negligible penalty at bit-error rate (BER) equal to 10−9.

Rotative quadrature phase-shift keying
A rotative quadrature phase-shift keying (RQPSK) modulation scheme is proposed. By rotating the QPSK signal constellation by pi/2, either clockwise or anticlockwise, during a symbol duration, the conventional QPSK scheme can be modified to transmit 3 bits per symbol to achieve both power and bandwidth efficiency.

DAC-Less amplifier-less generation and transmission of QAM signals using sub-volt silicon-organic hybrid modulators [PDF]
We demonstrate generation and transmission of optical signals by directly interfacing highly efficient silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) modulators to binary output ports of a field-programmable gate array. Using an SOH Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) and an SOH

Phase Jitter in MPSK Carrier Tracking Loops: Analytical, Simulation and Laboratory Results [PDF]
A performance characteristic of M-ary phase shift keying (MPSK) receivers is the variance of the phase error between the received and recovered signal carriers. For binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) loops utilizing
