Lithobiomes Heterogeneity and Geographic Distance Shape the Landscape Genomics Within Brazilian Mountain Systems

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 11, November 2025.
Genomic analyses of Paepalanthus calvus across Brazilian montane ecosystems reveal strong population structure shaped by geographic distance and lithological heterogeneity. Fine‐scale edaphoclimatic factors are the main predictors of genetic divergence among distinct lithobiomes, underscoring the role of substrate‐driven ecological isolation and local ...

Thermotolerance in Miniature: Heat Resilience of Moss Propagules From Brazilian Ferruginous Rocky Outcrops

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Harsh environments present substantial challenges to most organisms, making survival and thriving difficult. Such conditions often include extreme temperatures, intense radiation, strong winds, and very low or high humidity levels, resulting in a limited availability of resources like water and nutrients.

Modeling Iron Ore Breakage with the Tavares Model and DEM Simulation of a Laboratory Jaw Crusher

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 48, Issue 7, July 2025.
Physical characteristics, DEM contact and Tavares Breakage parameters were measured for an itabirite iron ore. Comparison of experiments in a laboratory jaw crusher to simulations showed good agreement of throughputs, marginal underpredictions of power, while some overpredicted product fineness.

Bacteriome Diversity of Soil Islands Associated With Bromeliads From Ironstone Outcrops in the Brazilian Pantanal

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Knowledge about the diversity and distribution of microorganisms in natural environments is essential for understanding the dominant microbial groups and predicting their ecological functions. This study is aimed at describing the bacteriome diversity in soils associated with bromeliads in the Brazilian Pantanal region, utilizing genomic approaches. We

U-Pb zircon ages and provenance of Quaternary sands: first results for Algarve (Portugal) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The mineralogical composition of beach sands results from several factors the most important of which are the composition of the source rocks and mixing by coastal processes. Since the pioneering work of Trask (1952) who used augite as a mineral tracer,
