Qualitative data collection with children
Applied Nursing Research, 2012Qualitative researchers have clear methods to guide them in data collection with adult participants, but little is known about effective interview techniques with children. The findings from this methodological study on qualitative interviews with children indicate that children are able to articulate their experiences in interviews.

Secondary Analysis of Qualitative Data
Advances in Nursing Science, 1997Secondary analysis of qualitative data is a valid mode of clinical inquiry. However, there is limited information available on its use in nursing. This article describes the use of secondary analysis for a study of family caregivers of relatives with dementia.

Qualitative Cleaning of Uncertain Data
Proceedings of the 25th ACM International on Conference on Information and Knowledge Management, 2016We propose a new view on data cleaning: Not data itself but the degrees of uncertainty attributed to data are dirty. Applying possibility theory, tuples are assigned degrees of possibility with which they occur, and constraints are assigned degrees of certainty that say to which tuples they apply.

Quantitative Analysis of Qualitative Data
Psychometrika, 1981This paper presents an overview of an approach to the quantitative analysis of qualitative data with theoretical and methodological explanations of the two cornerstones of the approach, Alternating Least Squares and Optimal Scaling. Using these two principles, my colleagues and I have extended a variety of analysis procedures originally proposed for ...

How to measure qualitative data
2015 Annual Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society (NAFIPS) held jointly with 2015 5th World Conference on Soft Computing (WConSC), 2015To overcome some problems with deep understanding of fuzzy values, certain learning finite automaton was put into a fuzzy environment. Previously such a device has been studied in the probabilistic environment, where the classic technique of standard Markov chains was applicable.

Concepts in the Analysis of Qualitative Data *
The Sociological Review, 1979The question arises: do problems of concept-formation in such research differ from those in quantitative social research? It has often been maintained that this is so. While in quantitative social research concepts tend to be pre-formed and fixed (it is argued), in qualitative research they tend to be fluid and emergent. Herbert Blumer’s classic paper,

Data Presentation — Qualitative Data
1991In this chapter we will consider ways of presenting qualitative data, i.e. that which arises from the use of nominal measuring scales. In what follows we will deal with both graphical (i.e. diagrammatic) and tabular methods; we will not discuss the most suitable design of tables and diagrams, readers are strongly recommended to refer to Chapman (1986 ...

Initiation Into Qualitative Data Analysis
Journal of Nursing Education, 2003ABSTRACT Qualitative data analysis may be daunting to nursing graduate students and other novice qualitative researchers. This article describes a qualitative research project required in a graduate nursing research couree that was designed to guide students through their first qualitative data analysis. Common pitfalls novice researchers may
