Early treatment prevents neuronal loss in experimental status epilepticus: A magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging study

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective In status epilepticus there are concerns that the prolonged high‐intensity electrographic seizure activity causes neuronal death and poorer outcomes. In animal models of status epilepticus, early treatment that stops the seizures prevents the later development of epilepsy.

Frequent cannabis use and the association with seizure burden in drug‐resistant epilepsy

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Cannabis use has increased substantially, with modern products characterized by high tetrahydrocannabinol concentrations and variable composition. The relationship between frequent cannabis use and epilepsy outcomes remains uncertain. We examined the association between frequent cannabis use and epilepsy severity, clinical phenotype,

Predicting levetiracetam neuropsychiatric adverse effects using graph‐theoretical electroencephalographic network metrics in drug‐naive focal epilepsy: A multicenter longitudinal study

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Levetiracetam (LEV) is an antiseizure medication approved for focal and generalized epilepsy. Despite its efficacy, neuropsychiatric adverse effects (NP‐AEs) may lead to treatment discontinuation. Quantitative electroencephalographic (qEEG) graph‐theoretical analysis has emerged as a valuable tool for identifying neurophysiological ...

Interictal epileptiform discharges on scalp electroencephalography: Reproducibility of visual interpretation—A systematic review

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) are a key diagnostic finding in first seizure, early epilepsy, and acute brain dysfunction. Variability in visual electroencephalographic (EEG) analysis contributes to diagnostic uncertainty. We performed a systematic review of the reproducibility of IED detection in clinical EEG.
