Coefficient quantization effects in digital signal processing [PDF]

open access: closedICASSP '77. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
A statistical analysis of the effects of coefficient quantization, which takes into account the quantization of the multiplication result, is presented. It is shown that the logarithm of the coefficient quantization noise power is proportional to the coefficient word length.

Vector-based signal processing and quantization for image and video compression

open access: closedProceedings of the IEEE, 1995
Image and video compression has become an increasingly important and active area. Many techniques have been developed in this area. Any compression technique can be modeled as a three-stage process. The first stage can be generally called a signal processing stage where an image or video signal is converted into a different domain. Usually, there is no

A Signal-Dependent Error Arising in Digitally Processed Images Due to Quantization

open access: closedIEEE Transactions on Computers, 1972
A troublesome error has been found in digital data which represents an image renormalized by a computer. The error, which takes the form of anomalous patterns in the switching sequence of certain bits, contributes unnecessary, signal-dependent noise to the-data.

Effects of Signal Quantization on the Performance of Multichannel Processing Systems

open access: closedThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1969
This paper determines the effects of amplitude quantizing on the performance of conventional or optimum multichannel space, time signal-processing systems, with emphasis on underwater acoustic applications. The system output signal-to-disturbance ratio is chosen as the performance criterion.

Phase quantized SAR signal processing: theory and experiments

open access: closedIEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1999
A complete theory of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) processing from phase-only data is presented, for both analogue and coded raw signals and reference functions. Appropriate processing architectures are presented as well as quality indexes to judge performance of the selected coding. The analysis encompasses both images and interferometric fringes for
