A Framework for Interval Quantization and Application to Interval Based Algorithms in Digital Signal Processing

open access: closedFundamenta Informaticae, 2011
In this article, we use the interval mathematics and targeted rounding by specific functions to establish a framework for interval quantization. The function approximation FId, that maps x to an interval [x1, x2] such that x1 is the largest floating point number less than or equal to x and x2 is the smallest floating point number greater than or equal

Novel multi-input signal-processing networks with reduced quantization noise

open access: closedInternational Journal of Electronics, 1984
Abstract New modular multi-input networks for direct arithmetic operations on delta-modulated input and output signals are designed and discussed. These networks are useful for delta-modulated signal-processing applications. They have advantages over those proposed up to now in that their design procedure is simpler, they are cheaper and, most ...

Quantization error in processing the signal from a laser Doppler anemometer

open access: closedMeasurement Techniques, 1998
The effect of quantization noise arising in the course of digital processing of the signal of a laser Doppler anemometer on the error in Doppler signal frequency estimation in the time domain is considered. It is shown that in high-precision measurements the quantization noise that appears in amplitude quantization of the signal of a laser Doppler ...

Level quantization effects in digital signal processing by discrete Fourier transform method

open access: closed2010 East-West Design & Test Symposium (EWDTS), 2010
The paper is aimed at drawing the attention of developers of measuring and computing devices based on modern microelectronic elements to a crucial problem of digital signal processing - quantization of the signal levels. Study of the quantization effects and of distortions caused by those effects is carried out for spectral analysis based on discrete ...

All-optical signal processing for 16-QAM using four-level optical phase quantizers based on phase sensitive amplifiers

39th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC 2013), 2013
The potential of four-level optical phase quantizers towards coherent processing of advanced modulation formats such as 16-QAM is proposed and numerically demonstrated. The work shows that phase quantization can demultiplex 16-QAM into two QPSK signals enabling sub-channel switching and optical regeneration of 16-QAM modulation formats.

Weak Signal Detection With Low-Bit Quantization in Colocated MIMO Radar

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2023
This paper addresses the weak signal detection problem in a massive colocated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar. To cope with the sheer amount of data produced by the large-scale antennas, a low-bit quantizer is introduced in the sampling ...

Quantization

What Is a Quantum Field Theory?, 2022
The basic goal of quantization for probability distribution is to reduce the number of values, which is typically uncountable, describing a probability distribution to some finite set and thus to make an approximation of a continuous probability ...

Distributed Quantization-Aware RLS Learning With Bias Compensation and Coarsely Quantized Signals

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2022
In this work, we present an energy-efficient distributed learning framework using coarsely quantized signals for Internet of Things (IoT) networks. In particular, we develop a distributed quantization-aware recursive least-squares (DQA-RLS) algorithm ...

Selecting Criteria for Optimizing Parameters of ADC for Digital Signal Processing

2019 International Russian Automation Conference (RusAutoCon), 2019
The paper presents the modern criteria analysis for the synthesizing the small-bit ADC and the evaluation of the ADC quantization noise dispersion with linear or nonlinear quantization step when choosing optimal values for thresholds and quantizer levels.

A Self-Organizing Algorithm for Vector Quantizer Design Applied to Signal Processing

International Journal of Neural Systems, 1999
Vector quantization plays an important role in many signal processing problems, such as speech/speaker recognition and signal compression. This paper presents an unsupervised algorithm for vector quantizer design. Although the proposed method is inspired in Kohonen learning, it does not incorporate the classical definition of topological neighborhood ...
