Surface Diffusion in SnTe‐PbTe Monolayer Lateral Heterostructures
The lateral heterostructures between 2D materials often suffer from the interdiffusion at the interfaces. Here, a surface diffusion mechanism is found to be dominating at the interfaces between semiconducting SnTe and PbTe monolayers. Atomically sharp interfaces can be achieved by suppressing this diffusion process. ABSTRACT The construction of complex

Quantum chemistry on quantum annealers
Quantum chemistry calculations for small molecules on quantum hardware have been demonstrated to date only on universal-gate quantum computers, not quantum annealers. The latter devices are limited to finding the lowest eigenstate of the Ising Hamiltonian whereas the electronic Hamiltonian could not be mapped to the Ising form without exponential ...

A novel approach for the design of functional semiconductors is presented, which utilizes the excellent optoelectronic properties of layered hybrid perovskites and the possibility to introduce a molecular photoswitch as the organic spacer. This concept is successfully demonstrated on a coumarin‐based system with the possibility to change the bandgap ...

Low-temperature illumination and annealing of ultra-high quality quantum wells
The effects of low temperature illumination and annealing on fractional quantum Hall (FQH) characteristics of a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well are investigated. Illumination alone, below 1 K, decreases the density of the 2DEG electrons by more than an order of

Multivariable optimization: Quantum annealing and computation [PDF]
Recent developments in quantum annealing techniques have been indicating potential advantage of quantum annealing for solving NP-hard optimization problems. In this article we briefly indicate and discuss the beneficial features of quantum annealing techniques and compare them with those of simulated annealing techniques.

Efficiency optimization in quantum computing: balancing thermodynamics and computational performance
We investigate the computational efficiency and thermodynamic cost of the D-Wave quantum annealer under reverse-annealing with and without pausing. Our demonstration on the D-Wave 2000Q annealer shows that the combination of reverse-annealing and pausing

Dynamical frustration in ANNNI model and annealing
Zero temperature quench in the Axial Next Nearest Neighbour Ising (ANNNI) model fails to bring it to its ground state for a certain range of values of the frustration parameter $\kappa$, the ratio of the next nearest neighbour antiferromagnetic ...

Through Diamond Robust Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy
Thin film diamond growth offers a unique opportunity for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS); the encapsulation of plasmonic nanostructures within a transparent, chemically stable, and physically robust coating. The diamond acts as both a window and protective layer, enabling illumination of the plasmonic nanostructures through the diamond ...
