Near‐Infrared Organic Photovoltaic Electrodes for Subretinal Neurostimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Organic photovoltaic electrodes based on the D18:Y6 blend enable precise and light‐controlled activation of retinal ganglion cells in a degenerating retina. NIR Light‐driven activation of retinal ganglion cells, tunable stimulation parameters, and biocompatibility with human retinal organoids highlight their potential for next‐generation prosthetics ...

Photonic Engineering Enables All‐Passive Upconversion Imaging with Low‐Intensity Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A passive upconversion imaging system enables the observation of scenes illuminated by low‐intensity incoherent near‐infrared light from 750 to 930 nm, by converting it into the visible without the use of external power. The upconverter is enabled by triplet–triplet annihilation in a bulk heterojunction, with absorption enhanced by plasmonic resonators

The Effects of Post-Thermal Annealing on the Emission Spectra of GaAs/AlGaAs Quantum Dots grown by Droplet Epitaxy

open access: yes, 2012
We fabricated GaAs/AlGaAs quantum dots by droplet epitaxy method, and obtained the geometries of the dots from scanning transmission electron microscopy data. Post-thermal annealing is essential for the optical activation of quantum dots grown by droplet

Quantum annealing and computation

open access: yes
We introduce and review briefly the phenomenon of quantum annealing and analog computation. The role of quantum fluctuation (tunneling) in random systems with rugged (free) energy landscapes having macroscopic barriers are discussed to demonstrate the quantum advantage in the search for the ground state(s) through annealing.

The Realization of Multidirectional, Free‐Standing 3D Plasmonic Nanostructures via 3D Nanoprinting: A Case Study of Fractal Antennas

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Free‐standing plasmonic gold‐based fractal antennas are fabricated by 3D nanoprinting, employing focused electron beam induced deposition and an optimized purification method to remove carbon while conserving structural fidelity. Simulation and experiment show broadband plasmonic activity, including customizable polarizability, thereby paving the way ...

Pneumonia detection by binary classification: classical, quantum, and hybrid approaches for support vector machine (SVM)

open access: yesFrontiers in Computer Science
Early diagnosis of pneumonia is crucial to increase the chances of survival and reduce the recovery time of the patient. Chest X-ray images, the most widely used method in practice, are challenging to classify.

Parameter setting for quantum annealers [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE High Performance Extreme Computing Conference (HPEC), 2016
We develop and apply several strategies for setting physical parameters on quantum annealers for application problems that do not fit natively on the hardware graph. The strategies are tested with a culled random set of mixed satisfiability problems, yielding results that generalize to guidelines regarding which parameter setting strategies to use for ...

Stabilizing Cationic Palladium Single‐Atom Sites on Heteroatom‐Doped Carbon for Selective Hydrogen Peroxide Electrosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this research, it is demonstrated that dual nitrogen and sulfur doping in hollow carbon spheres creates a tunable coordination environment that stabilizes cationic Pd single atoms as robust organometallic complexes, enabling high selectivity and stability for electrochemical hydrogen peroxide production under harsh acidic and peroxide‐rich ...

Nonequilibrium work on spin glasses in longitudinal and transverse fields

open access: yes, 2011
We derive a number of exact relations between equilibrium and nonequilibrium quantities for spin glasses in external fields using the Jarzynski equality and gauge symmetry.
