Quantum annealing and digital quantum ground state preparation algorithms [PDF]
The recent advances in the world of quantum technologies have prompted the development of various quantum-based algorithms, some of which are suitable to run on available quantum devices. Two leading candidates in this area are Quantum Annealing (QA) and

Quantum Annealing: Research and Applications [PDF]
This thesis studies several aspects of the quantum annealing (QA) computing approach. Quantum annealers' primary objective is to solve hard computational optimization problems. Because these optimization problems are in the NP-Hard complexity class, they

Tunneling and Speedup in Quantum Optimization for Permutation-Symmetric Problems
Tunneling is often claimed to be the key mechanism underlying possible speedups in quantum optimization via quantum annealing (QA), especially for problems featuring a cost function with tall and thin barriers.

What is the Computational Value of Finite-Range Tunneling?
Quantum annealing (QA) has been proposed as a quantum enhanced optimization heuristic exploiting tunneling. Here, we demonstrate how finite-range tunneling can provide considerable computational advantage.

Generation of Truly Random Numbers on a Quantum Annealer
This study investigates how qubits of modern quantum annealers (QA) such as D-Wave can be applied for generating truly random numbers. We show how a QA can be initialised and how the annealing schedule can be set so that after the annealing, thousands of

Ion Concentration and Voltage Imaging With Fluorescent Nanodiamonds
We demonstrate reversible switching between the fluorescent NV0 and the dark NV+ state, in sub‐30 nm FNDs via surface oxidation and hydrogenation, respectively. In an electrochemical cell, we show that the fluorescence from hydrogenated particles enables all‐optical imaging of voltages and ion concentrations at the micrometer scale.

ABSTRACT Conceptual process design combines discrete configuration choices with continuous operating decisions, often yielding difficult mixed‐integer nonlinear or simulation‐based optimization problems. This work presents an exploratory computational assessment of Ising‐based solvers, simulated annealing, quantum annealing, and entropy computing, as ...
