Superstrings in quantum cosmology

We consider the dynamics of a four-dimensional universe using the pointlike field-theory effective action of superstrings. We use the boundary conditions of Hartle and Hawking and Vilenkin to solve the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. We find that under certain conditions the Universe will tunnel from a Euclidean regime to a Lorentzian regime.
