Quantum Information and Foundations [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
The new era of quantum foundations, fed by the quantum information theory experience and opened in the early 2000s by a series of memorable papers [...]

The Expectation Monad in Quantum Foundations [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science, 2012
The expectation monad is introduced abstractly via two composable adjunctions, but concretely captures measures. It turns out to sit in between known monads: on the one hand the distribution and ultrafilter monad, and on the other hand the continuation ...

The quantum foundations of utility and value. [PDF]

open access: yesPhilos Trans A Math Phys Eng Sci, 2023
This work presents a generalization of game theory and new perspectives on utility and value. Using quantum formalism, we prove that classical game theory is a special case of quantum game theory. We show that the von Neumann entropy and von Neumann–Morgenstern utility are equivalent and that the Hamiltonian operator represents value.

Quantum foundations [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Today, 2019
More than a century after the birth of quantum mechanics, physicists and philosophers are still debating what a “measurement” really means.

QUANTUM SUPERGROUPS I. FOUNDATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesTransformation Groups, 2013
In this part one of a series of papers, we introduce a new version of quantum covering and super groups with no isotropic odd simple root, which is suitable for the studies of integrable modules, integral forms and bar-involution. A quantum covering group involves a quantum parameter q and a sign parameter pi squaring to 1, and it specializes to a ...

On foundation of quantum physics [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Atomic Nuclei, 2009
Some aspects of the interpretation of quantum theory are discussed. It is emphasized that quantum theory is formulated in the Cartesian coordinate system; in other coordinates the result obtained with the help of the Hamiltonian formalism and commutator relations between 'canonically conjugated' coordinate and momentum operators leads to a wrong ...

Foundations of the Quaternion Quantum Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
We show that quaternion quantum mechanics has well-founded mathematical roots and can be derived from the model of the elastic continuum by French mathematician Augustin Cauchy, i.e., it can be regarded as representing the physical reality of elastic continuum.

Quantum superpositions of ‘common-cause’ and ‘direct-cause’ causal structures

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
The constraints arising for a general set of causal relations, both classically and quantumly, are still poorly understood. As a step in exploring this question, we consider a coherently controlled superposition of ‘direct-cause’ and ‘common-cause ...

Quantum annealing – foundations and frontiers [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal Special Topics, 2015
We briefly review various computational methods for the solution of optimization problems. First, several classical methods such as Metropolis algorithm and simulated annealing are discussed. We continue with a description of quantum methods, namely adiabatic quantum computation and quantum annealing.
