Spin Quantum Heat Engine Quantified by Quantum Steering [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2022
Following the rising interest in quantum information science, the extension of a heat engine to the quantum regime by exploring microscopic quantum systems has seen a boom of interest in the last decade. Although quantum coherence in the quantum system of the working medium has been investigated to play a nontrivial role, a complete understanding of ...

Algorithmic quantum heat engines [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2019
We suggest alternative quantum Otto engines, using heat bath algorithmic cooling with a partner pairing algorithm instead of isochoric cooling and using quantum swap operations instead of quantum adiabatic processes. Liquid state nuclear magnetic resonance systems in a single entropy sink are treated as working fluids.

Quantum synchronization in nanoscale heat engines [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2020
Owing to the ubiquity of synchronization in the classical world, it is interesting to study its behavior in quantum systems. Though quantum synchronisation has been investigated in many systems, a clear connection to quantum technology applications is lacking.

Experimental Characterization of a Spin Quantum Heat Engine [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
Developments in the thermodynamics of small quantum systems envisage non-classical thermal machines. In this scenario, energy fluctuations play a relevant role in the description of irreversibility. We experimentally implement a quantum heat engine based on a spin-1/2 system and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. Irreversibility at microscope scale

Thermodynamics of quantum heat engines

Physical Review A, 2013
We consider a recently proposed four-level quantum heat engine (QHE) model to analyze the role of quantum coherences in determining the thermodynamic properties of the engine, such as flux, output power, and efficiency. A quantitative analysis of the relative effects of the coherences induced by the two thermal baths is brought out.

Simulation of the Quantum Heat Engine in the Quantum Register

2023
This paper investigates whether a quantum computer can efficiently simulate the transfer of excitation between a pair of quantum systems with energy loss caused by photon or phonon emission. The main contribution of our work is an algorithm that enables the simulation of time evolution of such a system, implemented on a standard two-input gates.

Quantum Heat Engine and Negative Boltzmann Temperature*

Communications in Theoretical Physics, 2017
Abstract To clarify the ambiguity on negative Boltzmann temperature in literature, we study the Carnot and the Otto cycle with one of the heat reservoirs at the negative Boltzmann temperature based on a canonical ensemble description.
