Beyond Core–Shell Micellar Structures: Complex Structures in Simple Surfactants

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
The structure of Triton X‐100 assemblies is examined and compared with that of C12EO10 micelles. Although both have similar molecular weights and identical hydrophilic segments, in these findings, it is revealed that Triton X‐100 cannot be represented by a singular structure.

Update on the German and Australasian Optical Ground Station Networks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 147-163, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Networks of ground stations designed to transmit and receive at visible and infra‐red wavelengths through the atmosphere offer an opportunity to provide on‐demand, high‐bandwidth, secure communications with spacecraft in Earth orbit and beyond. This work describes the operation and activities of current free space optical communications (FSOC)

Experimental and computational methods for studying relaxation of aluminosilicate glasses: A review

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 108, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract Relaxation plays a critical role in all glasses, especially those that undergo heat treatments for industrial applications. However, the fundamental mechanisms of relaxation are still poorly understood, especially in industrially relevant glasses such as aluminosilicate systems.

Analysis of the Utilization of Machine Learning to Map Flood Susceptibility

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 18, Issue 2, June 2025.
ABSTRACT This article provides an analysis of the utilization of Machine Learning (ML) models in Flood Susceptibility Mapping (FSM), based on selected publications from the past decade (2013–2023). Recognizing the challenge that some stages of ML modeling inherently rely on experience or trial‐and‐error approaches, this work aims at establishing a ...

ML‐driven models for predicting CO2 uptake in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs)

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 103, Issue 5, Page 2161-2173, May 2025.
Abstract This study advances the discourse on the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms for the predictive analysis of CO2 uptake in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), with a nuanced focus on the CATBoost model's capability to navigate the complexities inherent in MOFs' heterogeneous landscape.

Randomly pivoted Cholesky: Practical approximation of a kernel matrix with few entry evaluations

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 78, Issue 5, Page 995-1041, May 2025.
Abstract The randomly pivoted Cholesky algorithm (RPCholesky) computes a factorized rank‐k$k$ approximation of an N×N$N \times N$ positive‐semidefinite (psd) matrix. RPCholesky requires only (k+1)N$(k + 1)N$ entry evaluations and O(k2N)$\mathcal {O}(k^2 N)$ additional arithmetic operations, and it can be implemented with just a few lines of code.

Quaternary stabilization of a GH2 β‐galactosidase from the psychrophile A. ikkensis, a flexible and unstable dimeric enzyme

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 34, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract Studies of cold‐active enzymes may elucidate the basis for low‐temperature activity and contribute to their wider application in energy‐efficient processes. Here we investigate the cold‐active GH2 β‐galactosidase from the psychrophilic bacterium Alkalilactibacillus ikkensis (AiLac).
