Quantum nondemolition measurements via quantum counting [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 1983
For a harmonic-oscillator gravitational-wave detector, we show that a quantum nondemolition measurement of the square of the number operator may be made by coupling the detector to an oscillator readout via a quadratic interaction, as in optical four ...

Quantum nondemolition measurements on coupled harmonic oscillators [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 1983
Quantum nondemolition measurements on an harmonic-oscillator detector are discussed for two detector-meter coupling schemes: parametric amplification and parametric frequency conversion.

Quantum nondemolition measurement of a kicked qubit

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2005
We propose a quantum nondemolition measurement using a kicked two-state system (qubit). By tuning the waiting time between kicks to be the qubit oscillation period, the kicking apparatus performs a nondemolition measurement.

Perfect entanglement concentration of an arbitrary four-photon polarization entangled state via quantum nondemolition detectors

Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, 2016
We show how to concentrate an arbitrary four-photon polarization entangled state into a maximally entangled state based on some quantum nondemolition detectors. The entanglement concentration protocol (ECP) resorts to an ancillary single-photon resource and the conventional projection measurement on photons to assist the concentration, which makes it ...

Parametric Transducers and Quantum Nondemolition in Bar Detectors

1989
We describe a RF parametric transducer which is being developed for gravitational radiation bar antennae. With this transducer it is possible to measure a quantum nondemolition observable and thus potentially exceed the “quantum limit” for bar detectors.

Destruction of Coherence in Nondemolition Monitoring: Quantum “Watchdog Effect” in Gravity Wave Detectors

1984
We show that nondemolition monitoring of a Weber bar may prevent changes of the number of phonons, and thus influence the sensitivity of quantum-counting gravity wave detectors. This effect is similar to the Watchdog Effect which is predicted to delay decays of the monitored, unstable quantum system.
