Physical concepts in the development of constitutive equations [PDF]

open access: yes
Proposed viscoplastic material models include in their formulation observed material response but do not generally incorporate principles from thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, and quantum mechanics.

Understanding quantum mechanics: a review and synthesis in precise language

open access: yesOpen Physics, 2019
This review, of the understanding of quantum mechanics, is broad in scope, and aims to reflect enough of the literature to be representative of the current state of the subject.

Melt Grafting of Geometry‐Tailored Voltage Stabilizers for High‐Performance Polypropylene Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable one‐step melt grafting strategy is developed to enhance the dielectric properties of isotactic polypropylene by covalently incorporating thermally stable aromatic voltage stabilizers. This solvent‐free approach improves volume resistivity and DC breakdown strength through deep trap formation and charge localization, offering a sustainable ...

Quantum mechanics as classical statistical mechanics with an ontic extension and an epistemic restriction

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Where does quantum mechanics part ways with classical statistical mechanics? Here the authors derive both within a common framework; the former differs from the latter by an ontic nonseparable random variable and a restriction on the allowed phase space ...

Selective Charge Injection via Topological van der Waals Contacts for Barrier‐Free p‐Type TMD Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Topological van der Waals contacts represent a new class of electrodes for 2D semiconductors, enabling precise control of the Schottky barrier height (SBH) and contact resistance (RC) through interlayer distance and orbital hybridization engineering. In Se‐based transition metal dichalcogenides, these contacts achieve an ultralow SBH of 7 meV, RC of 0.

On the statistical mechanics of an adiabatic ensemble

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2004
Different descriptions of an adiabatic process based on statistical thermodynamics and statistical mechanics are discussed. Equality of the so-called adiabatic and isolated susceptibilities and its generalization as well as adiabatic invariants are ...

Germanane Quantum Dots Promote Metabolic Reprogramming of Immune Cells Toward Regulatory T Cells and Suppress Inflammation In Vitro and In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metabolic changes in immune cells direct the phenotype and function of the host immune system. Smart nanomaterials must target metabolic pathways to direct immune cell fate. This study reports the fabrication and first application of germanane quantum dots (GeHQDs) to modulate inflammation in vitro and in vivo.

Electron–Matter Interactions During Electron Beam Nanopatterning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article reviews the electron–matter interactions important to nanopatterning with electron beam lithography (EBL). Electron–matter interactions, including secondary electron generation routes, polymer radiolysis, and electron beam induced charging, are discussed.
