Quantum complexity theory

Proceedings of the twenty-fifth annual ACM symposium on Theory of computing - STOC '93, 1993
Summary: We study quantum computation from a complexity theoretic viewpoint. Our first result is the existence of an efficient universal quantum Turing machine in Deutsch's model of a quantum Turing machine (QTM) [\textit{D. Deutsch}, Proc. Roy. Soc. Lond. Ser. A 400, 97-117 (1985)].

Quantum theory of sticking

Physical Review B, 1992
We present an exact solution of a one-dimensional (1D) model: a particle of incident energy E colliding with a target which is a 1D harmonic «solid slab» with N atoms in its ground state; the Hilbert space of the target is restricted to the (N+1) states with zero or one phonon present. For the case of a short-range interaction V(z) between the particle

Axiomatic Quantum Theory

Journal of Philosophical Logic, 2001
The author defines a formal language AQT (axiomatic quantum theory) whose terms are built from three kinds of variables (scalars, vectors, operators), and among others Dirac's ``kets'' and ``bras''. The axioms are chosen such that elementary properties of operator variables for instance can be derived.

On the Completeness of Quantum Theory

Synthese, 1974
This is an essay on the interpretation of quantum theory. I take the central interpretive problem to be the problem of completeness. Partial assignments of values to the quantities are forced out by the 0 and 1 probabilities of the theory. Can we complete the assignments so as to assign values in superposed states? What is at stake is the very capacity

Relativity and Quantum Theory

Nature, 1938
IT is well known that the transformation theory of quantum mechanics corresponds to the property of the classical equations of motion of being invariant with respect to contact transformations. These are simultaneous transformations of co-ordinates xk (including time) and momenta pk (including energy), such that the difference of pkdxk in the old and ...

Quantum Theory of Radiation

Reviews of Modern Physics, 1932
Until a few years ago it had been impossible to construct a theory of radiation which could account satisfactorily both for interference phenomena and the phenomena of emission and absorption of light by matter. The first set of phenomena was interpreted by the wave theory, and the second set by the theory of light quanta. It was not until in 1927 that

QUANTUM THEORY OF WORMHOLES

Modern Physics Letters A, 1993
We re-explore the effects of multiply-connected wormholes on ordinary matter at low energies. It is obtained that the path integral that describes these effects is given in terms of a Planckian probability distribution for the Coleman α-parameters, rather than a classical Gaussian distribution law.

A Quantum Theory of Consciousness

Minds and Machines, 2007
The relationship between quantum collapse and consciousness is reconsidered under the assumption that quantum collapse is an objective dynamical process. We argue that the conscious observer can have a distinct role from the physical measuring device during the process of quantum collapse owing to the intrinsic nature of consciousness; the conscious ...
