The reaction coordinate mapping in quantum thermodynamics

, 2018
We present an overview of the reaction coordinate approach to handling strong system-reservoir interactions in quantum thermodynamics. This technique is based on incorporating a collective degree of freedom of the reservoir (the reaction coordinate) into

Autonomous quantum thermodynamic machines

Physical Review E, 2005
We investigate the dynamics of a quantum system consisting of a single spin coupled to an oscillator and sandwiched between two thermal baths at different temperatures. By means of an adequately designed Lindblad equation, it is shown that this device can function as a thermodynamic machine exhibiting Carnot-type cycles.

Quantum thermodynamics and open-systems modeling.

Journal of Chemical Physics, 2019
A comprehensive approach to modeling open quantum systems consistent with thermodynamics is presented. The theory of open quantum systems is employed to define system bath partitions.

Quantum sine Gordon thermodynamics

Physics Letters A, 1981
Abstract A Bethe ansatz description of the thermodynamics of the quantum sine Gordon system is shown to arise in the appropriate limit from Takahashi's analysis of the XYZ spin chain. Some simple thermodynamic properties of the quantum sine Gordon system follow.

Resource theory of quantum thermodynamics: Thermal operations and Second Laws

, 2018
Resource theories are a generic approach used to manage any valuable resource, such as entanglement, purity, and asymmetry. Such frameworks are characterized by two main elements: a set of predefined (free) operations and states, that one assumes to be ...

Quantum Stochastic Thermodynamics

2022
Abstract Processes at the nanoscale happen far away from the thermodynamic limit, far from equilibrium and are dominated by fluctuations and, perhaps, even quantum effects. This book establishes a consistent thermodynamic framework for such processes by combining tools from non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and the theory of open ...

Quantum Thermodynamic Processes

2009
Based on quantum thermodynamic reasoning even small embedded systems S may well be in thermodynamic equilibrium. This equilibrium depends on the system, here formalized by a parameter γ controlling the spectrum of S and on the embedding, formalized via a parameter α controlling the resulting attractor state for S.
