The Curious Concept That Almost Nobody Seemed to Care About at First: Virtual Particles in the Post‐War Period**

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, EarlyView.
Abstract Short‐lived, unobservable, and not subject to the usual rules of conservation of energy and momentum, virtual particles—an integral part of the conceptual framework of quantum field theory (QFT)—exhibit a number of curious characteristics which, in recent decades, have in part fueled important discussions about their ontological status ...

Machine learning of pair-contact process with diffusion

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The pair-contact process with diffusion (PCPD), a generalized model of the ordinary pair-contact process (PCP) without diffusion, exhibits a continuous absorbing phase transition.

Human flaws and logical tools in engineering

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper explores the limitations of human cognition, especially in engineering research, emphasizing the need for mathematical models and methods to guide decision‐making and theory validation. While human cognition excels in certain tasks, it is prone to biases that can distort our understanding.

$${b\rightarrow c\tau \nu }$$ b→cτν transitions in the standard model effective field theory

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2019
The $$R(D^{(*)})$$ R(D(∗)) anomalies observed in $$B\rightarrow D^{(*)}\tau \nu $$ B→D(∗)τν decays have attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, we study the $$B\rightarrow D^{(*)}\tau \nu $$ B→D(∗)τν , $$\Lambda _b\rightarrow \Lambda _c ...

CP asymmetry in the angular distribution of τ → KS πν τ decays

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
In this work, we study the C P asymmetry in the angular distribution of τ → K S πν τ decays, taking into account the known C P violation in K 0 − K ¯ 0 $$ {K}^0-{\overline{K}}^0 $$ mixing. It is pointed out for the first time that, once the well-measured

Heavy and light quarks in the instanton vacuum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Assuming the gluon field is well approximated by instanton configurations we derive a light quarks determinant and calculate its contribution to the specific heavy quarks correlators -- namely, the heavy quark propagator and heavy quark-aniquark correlator, receiving the instanton generated light-heavy quarks interaction terms contributions. With these

Gauge-Invariant Decomposition of Nucleon Spin and Its Spin-Off [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev.Lett. 78 (1997) 610-613, 1996
I introduce a gauge invariant decomposition of the nucleon spin into quark helicity, quark orbital, and gluon contributions. The total quark (and hence the quark orbital) contribution is shown to be measurable through virtual Compton scattering in a special kinematic region where single quark scattering dominates. This deeply-virtual Compton scattering

Exercise limitations in amyloid cardiomyopathy assessed by cardiopulmonary exercise testing—A multicentre study

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1326-1335, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Amyloid cardiomyopathy is caused by the deposition of light chain (AL) or transthyretin amyloid (ATTR) fibrils, that leads to a restrictive cardiomyopathy, often resulting in heart failure (HF) with preserved or reduced ejection fraction.

Quark-hadron phase transition in a three flavor PNJL model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We study the quark-hadron phase transition by using a three flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with the Polyakov loop at zero chemical potential, extending our previous work with two flavor model. We show that the equation of state at low temperatures is dominated by pions and kaons as collective modes of quarks and anti-quarks.
