Anisotropic quark stars with an interacting quark equation of state [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2019
A deep exploration of the parameter space that relates the interacting equation of state with the bag constant B, and the interaction parameter a, is fundamental for the construction of diverse models of quark stars. In particular, the anisotropy of quark stars with a well-motivated quantum chromodynamics (QCD) equation of state is presented here.

Quark matter and quark stars in strong magnetic fields at finite temperature within the confined-isospin-density-dependent mass model

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2018
We study the properties of strange quark matter (SQM) and quark stars (QSs) in strong magnetic fields within the extended confined isospin-density-dependent mass (CIDDM) model including the temperature dependence of the equivalent mass for quarks.

The spin parameter of uniformly rotating compact stars

open access: yes, 2011
We study the dimensionless spin parameter $j (= c J/ (G M^2))$ of uniformly rotating neutron stars and quark stars in general relativity. We show numerically that the maximum value of the spin parameter of a neutron star rotating at the Keplerian ...

Persistence of fatigue in the absence of pathophysiological mechanisms in some patients more than 2 years after the original SARS‐CoV‐2 infection

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Following an acute infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), a substantial percentage of patients report the persistence of debilitating symptoms, often grouped in a syndrome termed ‘long COVID’. We sought to identify potential pathophysiological mechanisms responsible for the persistence, in some long COVID ...

Stars and quark stars in bumblebee gravity

open access: yesAnnals of Physics
In this work, the interior spacetime of stars is built in a Lorentz symmetry breaking model called bumblebee gravity. Firstly, we calculated the modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation in this context of modified gravity. Then we show that the bumblebee field, responsible for the symmetry breaking, increases the star mass-radius relation when it ...

Exploring the spin structure of the nucleon at STAR [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Understanding the internal spin structure of the nucleon remains a challenge in strong interaction physics. The unique capability of RHIC opened new avenues in studying the internal structure of the proton with unprecedented depth and precision ...

SGR 0418+5729 as an evolved Quark-Nova compact remnant

open access: yes, 2011
Soft gamma repeaters and anomalous X-ray pulsars are believed to be magnetars, i.e. neutron stars powered by extreme magnetic fields, B~10^(14)-10^(15) Gauss.

Acute ketone monoester ingestion lowers resting cerebral blood flow: a randomized cross‐over trial

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend This double‐blind, placebo‐controlled, randomized cross‐over trial investigated the effects of ketone monoester (KME) ingestion on resting cerebral blood flow (CBF) in young adults. We demonstrate that KME supplementation lowers CBF in a dose‐dependent manner over 2‐houra post‐ingestion, whereas CBF remained unchanged following ...

Holographic Quark Matter and Neutron Stars [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2016
We use a top-down holographic model for strongly interacting quark matter to study the properties of neutron stars. When the corresponding Equation of State (EoS) is matched with state-of-the-art results for dense nuclear matter, we consistently observe a first order phase transition at densities between two and seven times the nuclear saturation ...

PSR B1257+12: a quark star with planets?

open access: yes, 2007
A recent observation has shown that PSR B1257+12 could have quite small X-ray emitting area, only about 2000 m$^2$, which is more than three orders smaller than the canonical polar cap size.
