Postanesthetic recumbency associated with hyperkalemic periodic paralysis in a Quarter Horse

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1992
Anesthesia and surgery in a Quarter Horse affected with hyperkalemic periodic paralysis resulted in euthanasia after 7 days of postoperative recumbency. Initial recovery was uneventful after extensive sinus surgery, but within 2 hours, the horse had severe muscle weakness. Plasma electrolyte concentrations were within the normal range during the period

Design of ultrathin plasmonic quarter-wave plate based on period coupling

Optics Letters, 2013
Based on an analysis of the surface admittance of a plasmonic film with a substrate, we propose an ultrathin quarter-wave plate consisting of a periodic plane array of symmetrical L-shaped plasmonic antennas. The period, which determines the coupling among L-shaped antennas, is an important parameter for optimizing the performance of the structure ...

Effects of dry cow intramammary therapy on quarter infections in the dry period

Veterinary Record, 1999
Quarter milk samples were taken from 150 cows from three dairy farms in south‐east Queensland at drying off, two, four and six weeks after drying off, at calving, and one, two and three weeks after calving. In each of the herds, the cows were randomly allocated to three groups of approximately equal size.

Hyperkalaemic periodic paralysis in Australian Quarter Horses

Australian Veterinary Journal, 1995
SUMMARY Three Quarter Horse stallions and 5 of their 11 tested progeny were diagnosed as affected with the inherited autosomal dominant defect hyperkalaemic periodic paralysis in Victoria in 1992. The diagnoses were based on the appearance of clinical signs and associated increased plasma potassium concentrations in response to oral potassium loading ...

Electronic and vibronic optical excitations of a quarter-filled periodic octamer

Synthetic Metals, 1997
Linear optical conductivity spectra of 1-D quarter-filled charge transfer crystals are interpreted on the basis of a periodic octamer and a Holstein-Hubbard model. It is shown how the low frequency spectral features are due to combined effects of electron correlations and of the dimerization of the system.

On a Class of Weierstrass Elliptic Functions at Half and Quarter Periods

SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1975
The evaluation of a class of Weierstrass elliptic functions and their allied functions at half and quarter periods is considered in this paper. The double periods of the functions are restricted to 1 and $2^k ci$, where k is an integer and $c = 1$, $\sqrt 3 $ or ${1 / {\sqrt 3 }}$.

Homoclinic connections and period doublings of a ship advancing in quartering waves

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 1996
The large-amplitude motions of a ship running in waves are analyzed with a mathematical model reduced to a system of eight coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Bifurcation analysis in relation to the surf-riding condition, with control parameter the angle of the rudder, shows the existence of a region of oscillatory behavior, containing ...

Nonlinear dynamic analysis of a quarter vehicle system with external periodic excitation

International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2016
Abstract In this paper, a nonlinear dynamic model of a quarter vehicle with nonlinear spring and damping is established. The dynamic characteristics of the vehicle system with external periodic excitation are theoretically investigated by the incremental harmonic balance method and Newmark method, and the accuracy of the incremental harmonic balance ...
