The Discovery of a Gravitationally Lensed Quasar at z = 6.51 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Strong gravitational lensing provides a powerful probe of the physical properties of quasars and their host galaxies. A high fraction of the most luminous high-redshift quasars was predicted to be lensed due to magnification bias.

Hidden No More: Spotlight on Tidal Disruption Events in Active Galactic Nuclei

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tidal disruption events (TDEs) are typically discovered in previously quiescent galaxies. However, earlier studies have revealed a handful of TDEs occurring in pre‐existing active galactic nuclei (AGN). We discuss AT2019aalc, a promising TDE candidate in an AGN, and compare it to similar sources.

On the link between associated MgII absorbers and star formation in quasar hosts

open access: yes, 2012
A few percent of quasars show strong associated MgII absorption, with velocities (v_off) lying within a few thousand km/s from the quasar systemic redshift.

Gaussian Processes for Predictive QSAR Modeling of Chromatographic Processes

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chromatography is a key unit operation in the biopharmaceutical manufacturing process used for protein purification and polishing. Design and optimization of these processes are resource‐intensive resulting from the complex combinatorial design space.

A structure for quasars

open access: yesNew Astronomy Reviews, 2000
We propose a simple unifying structure for the inner regions of quasars and AGN. This empirically derived model links together the BALs, the narrow UV/X-ray ionized absorbers, the BELR, and the Compton scattering/fluorescing regions into a single structure. The model also suggests an origin for the large-scale bi-conical outflows.

Advancing Circular Strategies in Photovoltaics: Assessing Reuse Readiness Across Technical, Economic, and Environmental Dimensions in a Case Study

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
This study examines the reuse readiness of photovoltaic modules through the Swiss PV Circle project. Results confirm technical feasibility with cost savings from targeted preselection, whereas economic viability depends on module age, testing, and market conditions.

A Glimpse at Quasar Host Galaxy Far-UV Emission, Using DLAs as Natural Coronagraphs

open access: yes, 2014
In merger-driven models of massive galaxy evolution, the luminous quasar phase is expected to be accompanied by vigorous star formation in quasar host galaxies. In this paper, we use high column density Damped Lyman Alpha (DLA) systems along quasar sight

Posidonia oceanica Leaves as a Natural Filler for Poly(Butylene Succinate‐Co‐Adipate) Composites: Characterization and Biodegradation Assessment in Seawater

open access: yesJournal of Vinyl and Additive Technology, EarlyView.
This study shows that incorporating 5–10 wt.% Posidonia oceanica, with or without micro‐talc, in PBSA preserves thermal stability, modifying crystallization behavior, and maintains good filler dispersion and interfacial adhesion. Mechanical properties are moderately stiffened.
