Origami‐Inspired Structural Design for Aquatic‐Terrestrial Amphibious Robots
This work presents a lightweight amphibious origami robot actuated by a single shape memory alloy wire. A rigid foldable origami structure with displacement amplification enables efficient terrestrial crawling and aquatic swimming. The addition of fan‐shaped units allows controllable turning in both environments.

Effect of induced blur on distance visual function
Background: Tests of visual function assess the eye and visual system. Factors such as ageing, refractive error, strabismus, amblyopia and ocular diseases have a negative effect on different visual functions. Aim: To determine the effect of induced blur

Properties of the Quadratic Transformation of Dual Variables
We investigate a solution of a convex programming problem with a strongly convex objective function based on the dual approach. A dual optimization problem has constraints on the positivity of variables.

Dentable functions and radially uniform quasi‐convexity [PDF]
In this paper we give a further result which states sufficient conditions for the theory of convergence of minimizing sequences to be applicable, develop the theory further, and give an application.

Given a bounded real function f defined on a closed bounded real interval I, the problem is to find a quasi-convex function f′ so as to minimize the supremum of |f(s)-f′(s)| for all s in I, over the class of all quasi-convex functions f′ on I.

Efficient and Robust Standing Postures of Quadruped Robots
A calibrated static framework estimates load, optimizes torques, and adapts posture so quadruped robots stand efficiently and robustly under external payloads, achieving up to 50% lower torque demand. Inspired by the natural posture adjustments of animals under external loading, this article presents an optimization‐based framework for minimizing joint

Convex regions in the plane and their domes [PDF]
We make a detailed study of the relation of a euclidean convex region $\Omega \subset \mathbb C$ to $\mathrm{Dome} (\Omega)$. The dome is the relative boundary, in the upper halfspace model of hyperbolic space, of the hyperbolic convex hull of the ...

This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

An Approximate Quasi-Newton Bundle-Type Method for Nonsmooth Optimization
An implementable algorithm for solving a nonsmooth convex optimization problem is proposed by combining Moreau-Yosida regularization and bundle and quasi-Newton ideas. In contrast with quasi-Newton bundle methods of Mifflin et al.

A descent modified Hager-Zhang conjugate gradient method and its global convergence [PDF]
In this paper, based on the memoryless BFGS quasi-Newton method, we propose a new modified Hager-Zhang (HZ) type method. An attractive property of the proposed method is that the direction generated by the method is always a descent direction for the ...
