A band of bound states in the continuum induced by disorder
Bound states in the continuum usually refer to the phenomenon of a single or a few discrete bound states embedded in a continuous spectrum of extended states.

Multinomial randomness models for retrieval with document fields [PDF]
Document fields, such as the title or the headings of a document, offer a way to consider the structure of documents for retrieval. Most of the proposed approaches in the literature employ either a linear combination of scores assigned to different ...

Modelling the Reliability of Logistics Flows in a Complex Production System
This paper analyses the disruptions occurring in a production system determining the operating states of a single machine. A system with a convergent production character, in which both single flows (streams) and multi-stream flows occur, was considered.

Quasi‐random hypergraphs revisited [PDF]
AbstractThe quasi‐random theory for graphs mainly focuses on a large equivalent class of graph properties each of which can be used as a certificate for randomness. For k ‐graphs (i.e., k ‐uniform hypergraphs), an analogous quasi‐random class contains various equivalent graph properties including the k ‐discrepancy property (bounding the number of ...

Sunflowers and Quasi-Sunflowers from Randomness Extractors [PDF]
The Erdös-Rado sunflower theorem (Journal of Lond. Math. Soc. 1960) is a fundamental result in combinatorics, and the corresponding sunflower conjecture is a central open problem.

Toppling Pencils—Macroscopic Randomness from Microscopic Fluctuations
We construct a microscopic model to study discrete randomness in bistable systems coupled to an environment comprising many degrees of freedom. A quartic double well is bilinearly coupled to a finite number N of harmonic oscillators.

F$F$‐factors in Quasi‐random Hypergraphs
Given $k\ge 2$ and two $k$-graphs ($k$-uniform hypergraphs) $F$ and $H$, an $F$-factor in $H$ is a set of vertex-disjoint copies of $F$ that together covers the vertex set of $H$. Lenz and Mubayi [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B, 2016] studied the $F$-factor problem in quasi-random $k$-graphs with minimum degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$.

Randomness and Irreversiblity in Quantum Mechanics: A Worked Example for a Statistical Theory
The randomness of some irreversible quantum phenomena is a central question because irreversible phenomena break quantum coherence and thus yield an irreversible loss of information.

Quasi-Random Sampling for Condensation [PDF]
The problem of tracking pedestrians from a moving car is a challenging one. The Condensation tracking algorithm is appealing for its generality and potential for real-time implementation. However, the conventional Condensation tracker is known to have difficulty with high-dimensional state spaces and unknown motion models.

Randomness-free Test of Non-classicality: a Proof of Concept
Quantum correlations and non-projective measurements underlie a plethora of information-theoretic tasks, otherwise impossible in the classical world. Existing schemes to certify such non-classical resources in a device-independent manner require seed ...
