IMPACT OF HARDENING ON SLIGHTLY CURVED ELASTICITY-PLASTICITY CRACK TIP DISPLACEMENT UNDER QUASI-STATIC LOADS

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2015
In this article,elastic-plastic curved crack tip opening displacement in hardened material under quasi-static loads has been mainly studied, and curved crack tip opening displacement has been calculated as a practical application of a second order ...

Discrete dislocation dynamics simulations of dislocation-$\theta'$ precipitate interaction in Al-Cu alloys

open access: yes, 2018
The mechanisms of dislocation/precipitate interaction were studied by means of discrete dislocation dynamics within a multiscale approach. Simulations were carried out using the discrete continuous method in combination with a fast Fourier transform ...

Probing microplasticity in small scale FCC crystals via Dynamic Mechanical Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In small-scale metallic systems, collective dislocation activity has been correlated with size effects in strength and with a step-like plastic response under uniaxial compression and tension.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Cancellous bone and theropod dinosaur locomotion. Part III—Inferring posture and locomotor biomechanics in extinct theropods, and its evolution on the line to birds [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2018
This paper is the last of a three-part series that investigates the architecture of cancellous bone in the main hindlimb bones of theropod dinosaurs, and uses cancellous bone architectural patterns to infer locomotor biomechanics in extinct non-avian ...

Creep stability of the proposed AIDA mission target 65803 Didymos: I. Discrete cohesionless granular physics model

open access: yes, 2017
As the target of the proposed Asteroid Impact & Deflection Assessment (AIDA) mission, the near-Earth binary asteroid 65803 Didymos represents a special class of binary asteroids, those whose primaries are at risk of rotational disruption.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.
