Do funding sources complement or substitute? Examining the impact of cancer research publications. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Assoc Inf Sci Technol, 2023
Abstract Academic research often draws on multiple funding sources. This paper investigates whether complementarity or substitutability emerges when different types of funding are used. Scholars have examined this phenomenon at the university and scientist levels, but not at the publication level.

International trade: Smarten up to talk the talk

open access: yesThe Manchester School, Volume 91, Issue 6, Page 521-569, December 2023., 2023
Abstract International trade is currently under fire from many sides. Protectionist trade policies are on the rise, putting an end to the decade‐long March of free trade. Making sense of the daily headlines and having an informed opinion on your own has rarely been more important than it is now.

REDUCING RECOMMENDATION INEQUALITY VIA TWO‐SIDED MATCHING: A FIELD EXPERIMENT OF ONLINE DATING

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, Volume 64, Issue 3, Page 1201-1221, August 2023., 2023
Abstract Leading dating platforms usually recommend only a small fraction of users based on users' popularity and similarity, leading to recommendation inequality. We use a stylized matching model from economics to modify existing algorithms to reduce inequality.

Optimal disclosure of information to privately informed agents

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 1225-1269, July 2023., 2023
We study information design with multiple privately informed agents who interact in a game. Each agent's utility is linear in a real‐valued state. We show that there always exists an optimal mechanism that is laminar partitional and bound its “complexity.” For each type profile, such a mechanism partitions the state space and recommends the same action

Artificial intelligence and the changing sources of competitive advantage

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, Volume 44, Issue 6, Page 1425-1452, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Research Summary We apply a resource‐based view to investigate how the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) affects competitive capabilities and performance. Following prior work on using chess as a controlled setting for studying competitive interactions, we compare the same players’ capabilities and performance across conventional ...

Robust comparative statics for the elasticity of intertemporal substitution

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, Volume 18, Issue 1, Page 231-265, January 2023., 2023
We study a general class of consumption–savings problems with recursive preferences. We characterize the sign of the consumption response to arbitrary shocks in terms of the product of two sufficient statistics: the elasticity of intertemporal substitution (EIS) between contemporaneous consumption and continuation utility, and the relative elasticity ...

Faith? Hope? Charity? Religion explains giving when warm glow and impure altruism do not

open access: yesThe Manchester School, Volume 90, Issue 5, Page 500-523, September 2022., 2022
Abstract I explain why many charities, especially religious ones, spend significantly to improve poor community members' living standards. Conventional theoretical philanthropy models with altruism or impure altruism/warm glow cannot explain poverty‐alleviating private transfers in the type and size of communities where this occurs—for example ...

Efficient power allocation algorithm in downlink cognitive radio networks

open access: yesETRI Journal, Volume 44, Issue 3, Page 400-412, June 2022., 2022
Abstract In cognitive radio networks (CRNs), the computational complexity of resource allocation algorithms is a significant problem that must be addressed. However, the high computational complexity of the optimal solution for tackling resource allocation in CRNs makes it inappropriate for use in practical applications.

Modulation of recombination zone position for quasi-two-dimensional blue perovskite light-emitting diodes with efficiency exceeding 5%

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
In recent years, substantial progress has been made in developing perovskite light-emitting diodes with near-infrared, red and green emissions and over 20% external quantum efficiency.

Efficient green light-emitting diodes based on quasi-two-dimensional composition and phase engineered perovskite with surface passivation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Perovskite light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are attracting great attention due to their efficient and narrow emission. Quasi-two-dimensional perovskites with Ruddlesden–Popper-type layered structures can enlarge exciton binding energy and confine charge ...
