The Herfindahl neutral point: A firm‐level threshold for managing market concentration with evidence from US hog packing

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper derives a firm‐level threshold, the Herfindahl Neutral Point, from the standard concentration index used in merger review. At this threshold, a marginal expansion leaves the index unchanged. Firms below the threshold reduce concentration when they expand; firms above it increase concentration.

Toward a Behavioral Reserve Model in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Behavioral impairment is common in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and strongly affects autonomy, caregiver burden, and outcomes, yet predictors of vulnerability remain unclear. We investigated whether premorbid regulatory traits and socio‐educational exposures are associated with behavioral phenotypes in ALS within a behavioral reserve ...

Hyperbolic Lattices Derived From Denser Tessellations

open access: yesIEEE Access
The paper’s aims are threefold. First, to identify the Fuchsian groups associated with the $\{4\lambda, 4\}$ and $\{6\lambda, 3\}$ hyperbolic tessellations in quaternion orders, where $\lambda = 3^{n}$ .

Research on Heat Transfer Enhancement of Spiral Grooved Tube Heat Exchangers Based on CFD and Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Driven by the energy crisis and carbon neutrality goals, high‐efficiency heat exchange equipment has become a core demand in the industrial sector. The spiral grooved double‐pipe heat exchanger exhibits significant heat transfer enhancement advantages, yet it requires balancing heat transfer efficiency and pressure loss.

Bioconvective Unsteady Casson Hybrid Nanofluid Flow on a Variable Darcy Regime Between Two Rotating Disks With Variable Heat Source

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study carries significant consequences in various engineering applications, such as cooling rotating disk surfaces, improving chemical reactor performance, and designing filtration systems. Considering these main applications in view, the aim of this study is to investigate time‐dependent Casson hybrid nanofluid flow on a permeable ...

Some Remarks Regarding Special Elements in Algebras Obtained by the Cayley–Dickson Process over Zp

open access: yesAxioms
In this paper, we provide some properties of k-potent elements in algebras obtained by the Cayley–Dickson process over Zp. Moreover, we find a structure of nonunitary ring over Fibonacci quaternions over Z3 and we present a method to encrypt plain texts,

Linked triples of quaternion algebras [PDF]

open access: yesPacific Journal of Mathematics, 2014
Let \(F\) be a field of characteristic not \(2\). A collection \(Q_1,\ldots,Q_n\) (\(n\geq 2\)) of quaternion algebras over \(F\) is said to have a common slot if there exist \(a,b_i\in F^*\) with \(Q_i\cong (a,b_i)\), \(1\leq i\leq n\). This collection is said to be linked if any pair \(Q_i,Q_j\) has a common slot. \textit{E. Peyre} [Proc. Symp.

The epistemic ceiling: Veteran practitioners' perspectives on primary qualification entry standards for teaching secondary mathematics in Scotland

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper presents an exploratory analysis of contemporary curricular and professional qualification policies in the Scottish education system, focusing on minimum qualification thresholds for mathematics teaching. The study examines how veteran secondary mathematics practitioners perceive the structural and pedagogical implications of using ...

Quaternionic and Octonionic Frameworks for Quantum Computation: Mathematical Structures, Models, and Fundamental Limitations

open access: yesQuantum Reports
We develop detailed quaternionic and octonionic frameworks for quantum computation grounded on normed division algebras. Our central result is to prove the polynomial computational equivalence of quaternionic and complex quantum models: Computation over ...

Improving the learning experience in an undergraduate course on microbial metabolism by using an illustrated story

open access: yesBiochemistry and Molecular Biology Education, Volume 53, Issue 2, Page 131-141, March/April 2025.
Abstract In the classroom, metabolism is often approached and received as a mundane exercise in memorization. Teaching metabolism also faces the challenge of negative perceptions that can impede learning. We sought to improve the learning experience in an undergraduate lecture course on microbial metabolism by implementing an illustrated story that ...
