THE QUENCHING OF THE IODINE FLUORESCENCE SPECTRUM [PDF]

open access: bronzeCanadian Journal of Chemistry, 1958
The quenching of the iodine fluorescence spectrum by various inert gases and oxygen has been studied with a view to obtaining information on the efficiencies of vibration energy transfer processes in this system. Preliminary results here presented are in agreement with earlier work of Rössler and Eliaschevich and indicate that the transfer processes ...

On mechanisms of fluorescence quenching by water

Biophysics, 2014
Mechanisms of fluorescence quenching of aromatic chromophores by water are reviewed. The mechanisms include polarity of chromophore environment, proton or electron transfer between the excited chromophore and water. A hypothesis is proposed that the quenching can be a result of chromophore-solvent hydrogen bond breaking in the excited state.

Fluorescence quenching studies with proteins

Analytical Biochemistry, 1981
Abstract A review is presented on the use of the technique of solute fluorescence quenching to study the structure and dynamics of proteins. A number of factors are discussed that must be considered in analyzing such data. Among these factors are the efficiency of the quenching process, the relative importance of static quenching, the heterogeneity ...

Magnetic quenching of fluorescence

Chemical Physics Letters, 1977
Abstract The direct and indirect mechanisms for the magnetic enhancement of radiationless decay processes are described, and used to account for the experimental observations of the magnetic quenching of fluorescence from carbon disulphide, glyoxal, and nitrogen dioxide.

Increasing Photothermal Efficacy by Simultaneous Intra‐ and Intermolecular Fluorescence Quenching

Advanced Functional Materials, 2019
Recently, using in situ self‐assembly‐induced fluorescence quenching (i.e., intermolecular quenching denoted herein) of a photothermal agent (PTA) to enhance its photothermal efficiency has proven to be a successful photothermal therapy (PTT) strategy ...

Phase-Dependent Fluorescence Quenching Efficiency of MoS2 Nanosheets and Their Applications in Multiplex Target Biosensing.

ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2018
Two-dimensional layered transition-metal dichalcogenide nanosheets have shown great potential in biosensors owing to their unique properties. Here, we exfoliated ultrathin metallic and semiconductive MoS2 nanosheets based on a chemical exfoliation method.

Quenching of NO2 Fluorescence

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1966
Quenching constants for NO2 fluorescence were obtained for 13 different inert gases. Quenching cross sections range from 1/25 to 1/2 of gas kinetic and increase with increasing molecular complexity, and dipole moment. No unusual resonance effect for quenching by ground-state NO2 was found.

Detection of oxygen by fluorescence quenching

Applied Optics, 1985
The incorporation of an aromatic hydrocarbon fluorescent compound into silicone allows utilization of fluorescence quenching as a mechanism to measure molecular oxygen concentration in the composite matrix. Excitation and emission spectra of the aromatics change in agreement with the Franck-Condon model when the universal solvent is benzene ...
