Protein Component in Sieve Elements of Quercus Rubra L.

At the earliest stage, P-protein in red oak sieve elements can be identified with the fine filaments embedded in the cytoplasm (Fig. 1), and they appear similar to the P-protein component in Cucurbita maxima at an early differentiation stage (1).

The role of ectomycorrhizae in the uptake of heavy metals by Quercus rubra was examined. Quercus rubra seedlings inoculated with the ectomycorrhizal fungus Suillus luleus were grown in a sandy loam soil containing a range of Cd, Ni or Pb concentrations.
