Study of two cork species as natural biosorbents for five selected pesticides in water

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
The present study evaluates biosorption efficiencies of pesticides atrazine, fluazifop-P-butyl, lactofen, lambda-cyhalothrin and chloropyrifos on corks of Quercus cerris and Quercus suber trees. The studies were carried out in batch and effects of pH (3,

The 4.2 ka event in the vegetation record of the central Mediterranean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this paper, the variation in forest cover in the central Mediterranean region, reflected by percentage changes in the arboreal pollen record, has been examined in relation to the 4.2 ka event.

Analysis of the suitability for ecotourism in Beira Baixa region using a spatial decision support system based on a geographical information system

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Ecotourism can contribute to the conservation of environmental values, as well as to the development of positive synergies between agents in the tourism sector, tourists and the local population. The growing interest in tourism offers with low environmental impact, which support the local economy, translates into a competitive advantage for ...

EcoViz: a tool for visual analysis and photorealistic rendering of forest landscape model simulations

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Simulation outputs from forest landscape models are complex, and tools for their visual analysis and effective communication are often limited. In this paper, we present EcoViz, a novel, open‐source visualisation platform designed to complement existing forest models by providing advanced 3D visualisation capabilities.

Holocene sea‐level and environmental changes on the Isle of Mull, Scotland

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sea‐level and coastal changes are reconstructed on the Isle of Mull, western Scotland, from 10 988 to 10 507 cal BP to the present. This research has produced the first SLIP for the Isle of Mull. A multiproxy approach including pollen, spore, foraminifera and diatom analyses reveals palaeoenvironmental changes from two coastal sites.

Potential of endophytic Beauveria bassiana against Coraebus (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) oak borers. [PDF]

open access: yesPest Manag Sci
This study demonstrates that an endophytic, oak‐associated strain of Beauveria bassiana exhibits adaptations to Quercus plants and potential against Coraebus boring beetles, supported by distinctive biological traits. Abstract BACKGROUND Oak borers in the genus Coraebus, including the bark‐ and the wood‐boring beetles C. florentinus and C. undatus, are

Holocene palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of sea level, coastal and vegetation changes along the southern Solway Firth, United Kingdom

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Holocene relative sea level (RSL) changes were reconstructed from four sites along the less‐studied southern Solway Firth. A multiproxy approach, including lithostratigraphical and biostratigraphical analyses, combined with radiocarbon dating, produced ten sea level index points (SLIPs).

Evaluation of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens as a biocontrol agent against oak decline disease in Quercus trees

open access: yesForest Systems, 2023
Aim of study: This study aimed to investigate the biocontrol potential of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens against Phytophthora cinnamomi infection in Quercus suber (cork oak). Both in vitro and in planta experiments were conducted to assess the effectiveness
